From Clutter to Cute: DIY Jewelry Organizers Roundup

July 12, 2012 by AllFreeJewelryMaking

I swear, instead of a cute little ballerina twirling to a light and whimsical tune, the Psycho “Shriek Shriek Shriek Shriek!” stabbing sound effect should play every time I open my jewelry box. Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, shoelaces, last night’s leftover spaghetti, my cat’s whiskers…nothing is safe from the giant, festering knot of chain and charms that seethes within my jewelry box. But today I put my foot down! There are so many cute and easy tutorials for DIY jewelry organizers floating out there on the interweb, I no longer have any excuse for leaving my jewelry in a jumble!

These adorable jewelry hangers, displays, and organizers are as cute as they are convenient. Not only do they help keep your burgeoning jewelry collection in check, but they make awesome decorations for your bedroom! Any one of these fabulous DIY jewelry organizers would help spruce up a room and add a little functional flair to your decor.

This Driftwood Jewelry Hanger from Style & Pepper is one of my absolute favorites. Rustic yet refined, this jewelry display makes an amazing piece of wall art while keeping your necklace chains nice and tangle-free. It’s the perfect project for nature lovers. (Just make sure it’s clean and pest free and all that good stuff!)

If you’re an earring fiend, this Lacy Vintage Earring Organizer is a great organizing solution. This thrifty project is great for those “DIY on a dime” types; it takes less than $10 to make! Plus it’s a quick and easy craft you can easily whip up and have hanging on your wall in an evening.

Then for the true jewelry hoarder, we have this peg board jewelry display. If you have more jewelry than you know what to do with, this might be the solution for you. You’ll never have a problem finding that exact piece you’re looking for again, and accessorizing your outfits will be a breeze.

Now here’s a genius idea–instead of throwing all your jewelry in a drawer, why not hang the drawer on the wall? This clever Necklace and Earring Organizer is made by adding hooks and a coat of paint to a utensil organizer like you’d use in a kitchen drawer, but instead of displaying forks and spoons, you’re displaying your fabulous accessories.

If you’re looking for something a bit more discreet, this gorgeous display idea from Martha Stewart is a fun way to keep your jewelry un-cluttered but still have it out of sight. Use various “orphaned” teacups and saucers (or pick some up at flea markets and garage sales) to create an eclectic organization solution.

Trying to avoid another hole in the wall? This cheese-grater-turned-earring-holder is a fun tabletop organizing option. Add a fresh coat of aqua paint for a retro vibe (or choose whatever palette you please) and add some brass hooks for feet, and you have a kitschy little earring display that will impress your guests.

Here are some other darling DIY jewelry organizers we love!

Check out more jewelry organization solutions at AllFreeJewelryMaking.com, and turn your mess into a DIY masterpiece!

Beads for the Big Easy: 23 Mardi Gras Inspired Jewelry-Making Ideas!

February 19, 2012 by AllFreeJewelryMaking

Costumes, fatty foods, and beads galore can only mean one thing–it’s Mardi Gras time! The Carnival celebrations have begun, and Fat Tuesday is less than a week away. Though I don’t usually engage in any Mardi Gras celebrations myself, it’s always fun to see the bright colors, the masks, the feathers, and of course, the beads! Unfortunately, acquiring these beads comes at a certain shame-inducing price (I think you know what I’m talking about)… Well hold on to your morals, beaders! We’ve gathered some fun Mardi Gras themed beaded jewelry projects so you can participate in all the Mardi Gras celebrations while keeping your clothes on! We’re sure your mothers would thank us.

Purple, Green, and Gold Jewelry-Making Designs

The colors purple, green, and gold scream Mardi Gras. They’re bright, playful, and joyous–just like the Carnival celebrations themselves. Each color symbolizes something different, so make a piece of jewelry in each color and wear them all at once to get the full Mardi Gras effect!

Making Valentine Jewelry: 7 Sugary Sweet Ideas

January 19, 2012 by AllFreeJewelryMaking

One of my favorite parts of any holiday is dressing for the occasion. Whether I’m donning my clover headband for St. Patrick’s Day or piling on the pastels for Easter, I always like showing my holiday spirit through my clothes and accessories. With Valentine’s Day less than a month away, it’s finally time to start planning my red and pink! I don’t have many Valentine’s jewelry pieces in my collection, so I thought this would be the perfect time to craft something new.

Valentine Craft Ideas You Can Wear

These Lacy Heart Earrings are just what I need to complete my Valentine’s Day attire! With their red color and subtle heart shape, they’ll definitely get me in the holiday spirit. I love the intricate filigree details in these pretty heart pendants. They’re like tiny Valentines I can wear! I think I’ll be my own Valentine this year and gift myself this adorable DIY Valentine craft.

If you’re spending this special day with your sweetheart, you’re going to want to look your best. This Chocolate Covered Cherry Hearts Necklace is the perfect date night accessory. The colors are a bit more muted for a more sophisticated look, so you could definitely wear this out to a fancy dinner. The layered beads and chunky gold chain are fashionable but fun. I’d pair this with a solid black top or dress to really let the necklace stand out.

For all the single ladies out there, Valentine’s day is always a good excuse to get together with your girlfriends! Wouldn’t it be fun to have a girls’ night in and plan a fun Valentine’s craft you can all make together? I think this Valentine’s Beaded Heart Jewelry would make a fun party project. With a variety of ribbons, you’re all sure to come up with something different. Try using Swarovski crystal beads for some extra sparkle. No reason you can’t pamper yourself on Valentine’s day!

If you have to work on Valentine’s Day (like me), dressing up at the office is always a fun way to subtly celebrate. Crafts like this Wired Heart Pin or this Faux Metal Heart Necklace are good options if you’re looking for heart-themed jewelry, or if you just want to add a touch of pink to your outfit, you could try the Love on a Wire Bracelet or Right Angle Weave Cocktail Ring. Pieces like these will help you feel the Valentine’s Day love without going too overboard.

There is even more inspiration for Valentine jewelry over at AllFreeBeadedJewelry.com to get your creative juices flowing. It’s time to start on all your Valentine craft projects, because February 14th will be here before we know it!

So what are you crafting in preparation for Valentine’s Day? Do you dress up and decorate for the holiday?

Spook-tacular Halloween Jewelry Ideas

October 26, 2011 by AllFreeJewelryMaking

I’ve been wracking my brain with what I should be for Halloween this year and it’s honestly driving me a little nuts. There are so many options, but I snoozed on coming up with an idea and now I don’t know what to put together last minute. Originally, I thought I was going to be a lion, but I have far too little time to try and completely that project. So, I decided to de-stress a little and look up some cute Halloween jewelry ideas. Jewelry is much less intimidating than sewing, takes less time to complete, and still succeeds in getting you in the spooky spirit. Like these Bottle Cap Pumpkin earrings! Who knew bottle caps could make such perfect jack-o-lanterns?I like the scary one, but I prefer the smiling one. How great for a children’s Halloween party?

Bottle Cap Pumpkin Earrings

I also want to make this Halloween Candy Bracelet before the weekend. Doesn’t it look good enough to eat? That’s because it’s made out of REAL candy dipped in epoxy resin. Yup! If you’re thinking about your waistline, but don’t want to waste candy why not turn it into a bracelet? Er, ok in reality I should do this project quick before I eat all the candy, but either way it’s a cute bracelet. Just make sure you warn any hungry mouths that resin covered candy is not edible!

Halloween Candy Bracelet

And now for something slightly more creepy, a skeleton hand brooch! Bedazzled of course. I love the idea of this brooch as being prefect for the Halloween season, but also just a little bit edgy and rock-n-roll so that it can be worn all year round as a great addition to a bag or coat. It’s incredibly simple to make too.

Skeleton Hand Brooch

There are more ideas like these in this fun 11 Unique Halloween Jewelry Ideas collection page on AllFreeBeadedJewelry.com. Christmas isn’t the only holiday that deserves some time to be taken out for jewelry making! Wear your spooky accessories to the office to get everyone in the mood for trick or treating this Monday! Halloween isn’t only for children, costumes and candy are for everyone!

What are you doing to get ready for this ghoulish holiday?

Bead Fun and Fashionable Jewelry with Free eBook

October 10, 2011 by FaveCrafts

Just like you can never have too many shoes (unless of course they can’t fit in your closet), you can never have too much jewelry (seriously, just buy another jewelry box; it can’t take up that much room). Regardless of how many baubles you’ve collected, you will always find a pair of earrings or a necklace that adds something new to a particular item of clothing. Jewelry exponentially expands your wardrobe, with each new combination of accessories giving new life to boring or over-worn outfits. Wearing clothing without jewelry is like eating a sundae without toppings: sure it still tastes great, but in the back of your mind you know it could taste like heaven. Jewelry is the all-important hot fudge, sprinkles, and whipped cream that make a scoop of vanilla ice cream divine. But a never-ending collection of jewelry doesn’t come cheap; even inexpensive costume jewelry can add up when you’re buying jewelry boxes full of it.

So what’s the solution? How do you build a collection of stylish jewelry for every outfit and occasion without breaking the bank? Get crafty! You can easily make beautiful jewelry yourself, and we’ve got an entire new eBook full of free beading patterns to prove it. Jewelry for You! How to Make Handmade Beaded Bracelets and Necklaces is a free eBook with over 30 pages of jewelry making projects from Consumer Crafts and Crafts Unleashed. This downloadable eBook has everything from delicate beaded bracelets to chunky statement necklaces, and even a few beaded earring patterns!

The cover of the Jewelry for You! eBook boasts a bold but versatile bib necklace decorated with fabric roses and ribbon. This necklace (p.16) would glam up a plain white top in a casual setting or add a gorgeous accent to a black dress for a more formal event. Likewise, the chunky multi-strand disc necklace on page 32 adds a brightness to any outfit and easily transitions from work to parties. If you like something a little more subdued for everyday wear, try one of our simple beaded bracelets, like the Get a Blue Clue bracelet and earrings (p.10) or the crystal pearl prayer bracelet (p.8).

Some of my favorite projects in Jewelry for You! How to Make Handmade Beaded Bracelets and Necklaces are the trendy pendant necklaces. These necklaces are so cute and fashionable that no one will ever know you made them yourself. The distressed wooden pendant necklace (p. 18) capitalizes on the popularity of owls and the “It’s Easy Being Green” necklace and earring ensemble (p. 30) lend a rustic feel to earth-toned outfits. However, if you’re looking for something with a classic beauty that will never go out of style, I suggest the floating pearl necklace (p. 27). Its timeless elegance is perfect for every occasion, from vacuuming your carpet in heels (a la June Cleaver of course) to hobnobbing with European royalty.

Enhance your jewelry collection today by downloading the free Jewelry for You! eBook and getting started on those beading projects! Your wardrobe will thank you.

Learn How to Make Beaded Bracelets and Necklaces with New FaveCrafts eBook

September 27, 2011 by FaveCrafts

Do you know what I heard last week? The swag bags given away to attendees of the Emmy award shows include handmade jewelry from independent artists. I was so happy and surprised to find that crafters like you and I are having their creations sent to celebrities and worn on television! You may think that kind of artistry is out of your reach, but many of the crafters who had their jewelry included in the swag bags were local artisans with little more than an online jewelry store or Etsy shop, and they had to start somewhere!

With a little practice, you can learn to make jewelry fit for celebrities too! Start with the new Jewelry for You! How to Make Handmade Beaded Necklaces and Bracelets eBook from FaveCrafts and Consumer Crafts. This free eBook includes over 30 pages of beautiful beaded jewelry projects to fit any outfit. You can find instructions for creating 5 different bracelets, 13 different necklaces, and even a few pairs of earrings.

If you like long, dangling pendant necklaces with interesting charms, the Jewelry for You! eBook provides tutorials for several different pendants. The distressed wooden pendant (p. 18) is earthy and adorable with the fashionable owl motif, while the “Key to Everything” charm necklace (p. 21) has a steampunk flair. If you prefer bigger statement necklaces, make a bib necklace with oversize fabric roses (p. 16) or a multistrand necklace covered in disc beads (p.32).

The jewelry projects in Jewelry for You! How to Make Handmade Beaded Necklaces and Bracelets also make wonderful gifts for friends and family. I especially like the idea of the fillable frames bracelet (p. 13) and necklace (p. 14). These locket-sized frame charms keep photos of loved ones close.

You can get all these jewelry making projects and more by downloading the Jewelry for You! How to Make Handmade Beaded Necklaces and Bracelets eBook. Download and print this free eBook to start making beautiful handmade jewelry today!

How to Crochet a Rope

I’m still chugging away at the ballet wrap sweater in double crochet. I’ve now finished one more sleeve. I keep getting distracted by embroidery and paper-bead aspirations, new recipes, and the first video game to which I have ever been addicted (I blame the boyfriend). I always return to the crochet eventually. This wrap sweater […]
