How to: Make Sequin Heart Earrings

February 8, 2011 by FaveCrafts

If you’re a regular Link Love reader (or craft blogosphere lurker) you know that heart themed crafts are HUGE right now, and sequins are the new glitter. First I showed you Grosgrain’s sequin heart shoe clip tutorial, and then I found Rae Gun Ramblings’ sequin heart headband. I was completely smitten with these ideas, so I knew I had to put my spin on it. I just bought some earring-making supplies last week (of course I braved the Snowpocalypse to go to the craft store!) so I decided to make sequin heart earrings. The tutorial is obviously heavily influenced by the two aforementioned projects, but I figured I’d show you how I did it.

  1. I drew a heart on some card stock scraps and cut it out to use as a template.
  2. Then I cut out two hearts from some scraps of red felt I already had (leftover from my sewn Valentines!)
  3. I hot-glued strings of red sequins to each of the hearts, making sure to cover the entire felt piece. I just went in a random zig-zag design, since the pieces were so small.

  4. When both hearts were done, I attached the earring backs. First I added a jump ring onto each earring back, and then I hot-glued the jump ring to the back of the heart, covering it up with a smaller piece of felt to keep it secure. I’m sure there’s a better way to do this, but it was my very first time making jewelry!

Et voila! The earrings are done!

And in case you’re curious about what my ear lobe looks like, here’s the earring in action:

How to Make your Own Earrings

September 1, 2010 by FaveCrafts

If you’re like some people I know then you spend a lot of money on all your jewelry. What’s the point? I understand jewelry is the last piece of the puzzle, it puts your whole outfit together, but why spend all the money? Try to save that money and make your own jewelry. If you make your own jewelry, the possibilities are endless. You will always have a piece of jewelry to match every outfit because you made it specifically for your outfit. You can’t lose if you make your own jewelry.

Earrings are one of my favorite pieces of jewelry to wear. I feel that if you want a fun night out on the town you can wear some dangly earrings, they’re just so much fun. If they dangle, people can see them better than if they were just post earrings. Learn how to make your own earrings with me!

What you need:

  • Ball End Headpins
  • 2- Gems or crystals
  • 2- French Ear Wires
  • 2- 4mm round beads
  • Side Cutters
  • Chain Nose Pliers
  • Round Nose Pliers

Take one of the end headpins and thread on the crystal and one of the round beads. You’ll then make a simple loop with one of the pliers and cut off the access wire. Do not close the loop completely on the headpin so you can attach the ear wire.  You then attach the loop to the ear wire and continue closing.  You then have your beautiful earring, do the same thing with the second one. Wear with a fabulous outfit!

The Chain Dangle Earrings are a really cute pair of earrings you will love to make. These also make for great gifts. If you’re not into earrings but you like necklaces, then watch this video on how to refashion a necklace.
