How to Crochet a Snowman

December 8, 2010 by AllFreeCrochet

Here in Illinois we just got our first official snow storm. Some ares got more than others but it ranged about 2-5 inches depending on where you live. With that said, I’m glad it was over a weekend because I hate driving in snow, it’s just too scary, so I made my husband drive (to the dog park). Our puppy is half Husky, half Shiba Inu so he just loved the snow so much, it was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

I had to share a picture with you!

While we were at the dog park I received a message from my friend saying her dog just got in a fight with a snowman thinking it was alive. I was cracking up, that was one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. It made me think though, it’s finally that time to start building snowman with your kids or your significant others. If you’re too cold like me to build real snowman then you can crochet them.

Crochet snowman are really neat because you can turn it into something like a brooch or pin. You only need a few materials:

  • Size C Crochet Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors
  • Beading Needle
  • Craft Glue
  • Pin Back
  • Yarn
  • Wiggly Eyes
  • Pom Poms and a few other materials

You’ll first want to start out crocheting two circles, a two inch circle and a 1.5 inch circle. If you don’t know how to crochet a circle, check out this video. Metallic yarn will make your snowman sparkly for a nice effect. Leave the tail end of your bigger circle long enough so you can attach the two circles once they’re both created. Using your yarn needle you then stitch the two circles together using a simple stitch of front to back. You can then start adding your face and embellishments.

Watch this great tutorial to make it easier to crochet a snowman.

Here are two other really cute snowman you can crochet:

1. Crochet Snowman Motif
2. Crocheted Snowman
