5 Homemade Christmas Gifts That Are Fun To Eat And Create

November 7, 2012 by FaveCrafts

Christmas is right around the corner and you know what that means? It is time to buy gifts! Well, that is probably how you feel at least. But there’s no reason you can’t get into the Christmas spirit and make some homemade Christmas gifts that not only work well for your budget but are also adorable. Even tasty too!  Since I not only love to eat (who doesn’t) and love to craft, I thought I would share some great edible Christmas crafts with you as well as some other great DIY Christmas gifts centered around food.

Who doesn’t love chocolate?! Everybody loves chocolate and nobody will complain when you give them this wonderfully festive homemade Christmas gift from Laurie Furnell. Not only is this  treat very easy to make but it works great as both a stocking stuffer or as an easy yet fun gift to give to all your co-workers and friends. You can modify this project to fit any kind of candy bar like Milky Ways (my personal favorite) or a tube-like treat like Rolos and Lifesavers. Either way, this DIY craft is great for the holidays.

There’s nothing better than a hot cup of cocoa on a cold winter day. I remember the best part about playing in the snow as a child was coming inside and having a big cup of hot chocolate ready for me that was prepared by my mom. But now I am an adult and now I drink my hot chocolate differently- and on-the-go. We all now drink our delicious hot beverages from those Starbucks-type cups and this great idea by Spoonful is a fantastic and inexpensive homemade Christmas gift.

Candy Sleigh Candy Sleigh

How cute is this? From our friends over at Kaboose, this is a replica of Santa’s sleigh made entirely out of candy. Not only is this a great trinket to have around the house to add a great Christmas feel to any occasion but it is pretty easy to make and makes for a great homemade Christmas gift to give to your friends and family.

This homemade Christmas gift from The Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle is simple to make and would work well not only to store candy but it would also be great for all the baked goods that you make. I know I always have a few extra cookies left over after I bake a batch for Santa and this easy DIY project is a perfect container to help carry the leftovers around in.

Root Deer RudolphRoot Deer Rudolph

Our friends over at AllFreeHolidatCrafts sent me this delightfully remarkable idea to turn your root beer bottles (or really any bottles that  you have lying around the house) into in inexpensive and amusing craft that the whole family can enjoy making.

Guest Post: A Scrapbooker’s Gift Basket

July 7, 2011 by FaveCrafts

This guest post was written by Gift Basket Gal.

It’s that time of year again…time to shop for your best (and crafty) friend’s birthday.  She’s always giving you creative gifts and this year you want to impress her with a gift she’ll wish she thought of herself.  With these tips you can make her a gift basket that she’ll love to look at and use!

Compared to the best gift baskets on the web, a homemade one can either look unprofessional or be just as striking if put together properly.  The main component to creating a successful gift basket is knowing your recipient.  Take advantage of Gift Basket Reviews to get a sense of what you want your finished basket to look like.  Many professional gift baskets come with an assortment of gourmet snacks, cheeses and wines.  However, if your recipient is the crafty type, you’ll probably want to indulge their hobbies and not their taste buds.

Scrapbooking is a very popular hobby and one that can translate into a gift basket gift.  You might be thinking, “I don’t know anything about scrapbooking. How can I make a gift basket based around that hobby?”  Conduct research online or visit your local craft store and ask an associate to help you get ideas.  Putting this gift together should be fun for you as the gift maker too, so stick to what you are comfortable with.  For example, if you don’t feel comfortable buying your recipient certain scrapbooking tools because either you don’t think they’ll use them or you don’t know what they’re for, then no worries.  You don’t have to fill this gift with absolutely every scrapbooking tool under the sun.  You can supplement a few scrapbooking tools with your recipient’s favorite candies or snacks.

Start your gift by choosing a basket or fun scrapbooking storage tote or container.  A scrapbooking tote with handles and pockets for storing tools such as scissors, pencils or paint brushes is perfect for the scrapbooker on the go.  A photo box makes a great container for your gift basket as well.  The lid of the photo box can be secured to the bottom of the box with a ribbon.

The supplies you purchase to fill the container are completely up to you.  If you know your recipient has many tools already, pick supplies such as colored paper, cut outs and decorations.  These are items that get used up and will need replenishing.  Another filler option for your gift basket is a gift certificate to a craft store so they can buy supplies they know they like and need.

Assembling the gift and making it presentable is the last step.  Make sure larger items (such as a pack of colored paper or card stock) are placed in the back of your container.  Smaller items should be placed in the front or along the sides.  Take a cue from the Best Gift Baskets online to see how the products in those gifts are displayed.  Finish off the gift with a ribbon or bow that matches or complements the colors of your tote, picture box, or basket.

When making your own gift basket as a gift for someone, the sky is the limit.  The size of your gift, quantity of items to include, and types of gifts is all up to you and the interests of your recipient.  This is why a homemade gift basket is able to rival some of the Best Gift Baskets online.

FaveCrafts 365 Kids Can Craft!

May 9, 2011 by Maria

There are still bits and pieces of Easter decorations around my house and a few Easter eggs in the yard, but we survived the holiday. I was overjoyed at all the Easter goodies given to me by my family and friends. We have a rule that any gift given must be handmade.

One of my Easter gifts was given to me by my friend Allison who is a grade school student, and her gift was charming, colorful, and very creative. We felt honored that she gave us something she worked hard on during a Clay Camp! The Easter Bunny was eying it, but it is safe in our curio cabinet! Watch the video to see Allison’s lovely gift!

Gift Sunday: Festive Fabric

November 29, 2009 by FaveCrafts

If you’re a sewer or quilter, you may have extra fabric lying around that you don’t know what to do with. Fabric scraps can be reused to create items that you may not have otherwise made with the original fabric. Festive fabric is a nice embellishment to many different projects that your friends will love. They won’t even know that you used leftovers to make them!

Here are a few gift ideas using fabric:

Fabric Frame – A nice way to use old fabric scraps that creates a quilted look.

Spice Girls of the Old Country – Give a gift of lovely smelling dolls that go great in any kitchen.

Art Nouveau Ornament – This ornament is chic and decorative, make several and hand them out at your Christmas party.
