26 DIY Christmas Gift Ideas for the Whole Family

November 27, 2018 by FaveCrafts 1 Comment

Sometimes I look at Christmas as a competition. Who can come up with the absolute best Christmas gift idea? Each year, I want to give gifts to my family and friends that are different, unique, and handmade. Personally, I feel that DIY Christmas gift ideas are great because they’re unexpected. They’re off the beaten path.

Anyone can go out and buy that hot new video game or movie release for a friend. It’s easy. That friend can probably even buy said gift for him or herself, too. Homemade Christmas gifts, however, are one of a kind. No two are alike, and giving the gift of something homemade is a feeling akin to sharing a moment together.

What could have been a simple movie purchase from the store is a sensation that’s much greater. It’s a heartwarming connection shared between two people, and it bears the warmth and spirit that all of those classic holiday tunes remind us of year after year.

The hard part is, when you make a habit of crafting Christmas gifts and decorations on an annual basis, what happens when you run out of ideas?

Lists happen. In my last Christmas article, 10 Jar Gifts to Get You Through the Holidays, I focused on quick, thoughtful, and fun gifts for all of those cousins, second cousins, and third cousins that make up your extended family. Today’s list is a little more personal. These homemade gifts are for the men, women, and children you see every day. These crafts are cute, clever, beautiful, and exciting, and I’ve broken them down into three categories.

July 10, 2018 by FaveCrafts Leave a Comment

Everybody loves a homemade gift. Whether you’re given a crochet scarf or a handmade card, homemade gifts make you feel a little extra loved and appreciated. While you might’ve never thought about gifting your man a self-care product, this DIY Beard Oil is definitely a gift that you should consider! Most men do not practice any form of self-care, so their skin and hair tend to be dry and rough. Beard oil is important because it moisturizes your husband’s facial hair and the skin beneath it. And if your significant other has wild facial hair, the DIY oil will help tame that too! So, although your spouse/boyfriend might not immediately appreciate it, he’ll definitely thank you later.

Make it Personal: Monogrammed Gifts for Family and Friends

April 11, 2014 by AllFreeChristmasCrafts 1 Comment

Make it Personal: Monogrammed Gifts for Family and Friends

There’s something charming about monograms. Personalization is practical and comforting to people, whether they be newlyweds, homeowners, or little girls and boys. It’s fun to see your name or initials on items you use daily, like a favorite coffee mug or pillow case. Plus, it’s so easy to keep track of monogrammed accessories. At AllFreeChristmasCrafts, we’re always looking for great gift ideas for the loved ones on your list. We have a nice collection of monogram crafts on our site, but there are tons of ideas out there. Check out a few of our favorites.

DIY Wedding Gifts

Personalized Casserole DishSpring and summer are the most popular seasons for weddings, and often those invitations come with a hefty price tag. If the items on the registry are out of your price range, or if you find yourself scrambling for gift ideas, consider making a monogrammed gift for the happy couple. You can tastefully display the first letter of the couple’s surname on ceramics, such as these Personalized Mugs and Dishes. For a quirky and useful present, etch the couple’s last name on the bottom of a casserole dish, and there will never be confusion over which dish belongs to whom at family dinners.

If you happen to be the bride-to-be, you can put together personalized treats for your bridesmaids or wedding guests. These Chalkboard Wine Glass Bottoms will delight your bridesmaids, plus they will give you an excuse to stop by for a glass of something sweet when you return from your honeymoon.

And what about those lovely folks who came to help you celebrate? Fill these Monogrammed Treat Containers with mints, chocolates, and other tiny treats for your guests. Family and friends will appreciate these favors, which double as mementos, long after the candy is gone.

Monogram Gifts for Women Who Wander

Personalized Travel MugThese traveler-friendly crafts are great for people who are always on the go. For instance, most travelers rely on caffeine to keep them energized, which is where this Personalized Travel Mug comes in. It’s reusable, easy to clean, and has your name written all over it–literally! Another fabulous and inexpensive gift is this Personalized Lip Balm. Cute and convenient, you can wear your lip balm around your neck when you make this fun craft. It’s especially great for scatterbrained people like yours truly. You can also make yourself or a loved one a personalized gift idea like this Monogram Sachet. Stow this darling craft in your suitcase so that every time you open it you’ll catch a lovely scent. If you’re traveling with a large group and storage space is limited, you can’t beat this Travel Pillow Case. The monogram will prevent any packing or unpacking mix-ups. Even if you can’t sleep in your own bed, your head will feel at home.

What type of crafts do you like to personalize?

Mad for Monograms

March 17, 2014 by AllFreeChristmasCrafts 1 Comment

When I was little my mother would put my initials in just about everything. This prevented the inevitable “Is this mine?” confusion that happens when every kid has the same lunch box, jacket, mittens, etc. While monogramming has been around forever, I’ve noticed in the past few weeks that it’s truly been trending.

Everywhere I turn there seems to be another tutorial on how to proudly display your initials, with everything from monogrammed jewelry (something that seems to be particularly popular at the moment), to mugs and homemade Christmas ornaments.  My Pinterest has been flooded with monogrammed coasters, pillows, bags, and necklaces. Even my Etsy newsletters have been filled with monogrammed home decor and jewelry.

Mad-for-Monograms

With school graduations coming up, and wedding and baby shower season kicking into high gear (I like to call this time of year “Milestone Season”), I thought it might be fun to share some fun ways to make something personal for the special people in your life. In my opinion there’s truly nothing better than receiving a homemade gift. Even if it’s not perfectly crafted, it holds so much more meaning knowing that the person spent time creating something so thoughtful. After all, it’s the thought that counts!

Monogramming goes even one step farther, making it personal for them as well! Just think how perfect a monogrammed pillow or wall decoration would be for your graduate, or some monogrammed glasses or coasters would be for a pair of newlyweds. Let’s go mad for monograms with the help of these wonderful tutorials!

In Case You Missed It: “11 Christmas Gift Ideas: Handmade Scarves, Hats and More”

July 14, 2013 by AllFreeChristmasCrafts Leave a Comment

I am a huge fan of festive attire at any time of year. During the summer, I create wearable crafts with more color than in fall or winter. Around Halloween, I bust out the orange and black and go a little heavier on the eye makeup. At Easter, it’s pastels at all times, and pretty dresses.

The same trend holds true, of course, around Christmastime. Bring on the ugly sweaters, the handmade hats, the holiday earrings. You better believe I’ll find an excuse to wear my knee-high green and red striped socks, and I’ll roll up my skinny jeans to show them off, proudly. To me, nothing says “I’m getting in the holiday spirit” like dressing up in wearable crafts.

You can make great wearable crafts for the holidays when you download the 11 Christmas Gift Ideas: Handmade Scarves, Hats and More eBook! Christmas wearable crafts are perfect gifts for anyone on your Christmas list. Even if your friend, cousin, or child doesn’t love to wear handmade hats or homemade scarves, there’s always the argument of practicality. If it’s cold, you’ll need a hat. Why not make it an elf hat? If it’s brisk, you’ll need a scarf. Why not make it a Fleece Scarf with Pom Poms?

It may be more than six months until Christmas, but making great handmade Christmas gifts takes time . . . especially if you’re going to try making all eleven wearable crafts in this great AllFreeChristmasCrafts eBook!

What you’ll find in this eBook:

Loom Knitted Santa Hats: Talk about getting in the Christmas spirit. Nothing says “Merry Christmas!” like these great Loom Knitted Santa Hats. They’re festive, sure, but they’re also practical: if you live in a seasonal climate, you need to keep that head warm. Put those knitting skills to the test when you knit this great handmade Christmas gift found in the 11 Christmas Gift Ideas: Handmade Scarves, Hats and More eBook.

Santa Scarf: Now this homemade scarf is just so precious, I had to share. The scarf project has you make Santa’s face and beard on one end, and the entire length of the scarf is his hat! The scarf tapers to a point, then you attach a puff ball for the pom-pom, and you have the finished product. Best of all, you don’t need to sew to make this adorable scarf because this blogger gives directions for a no-sew version as well. Find this incredibly endearing scarf in the 11 Christmas Gift Ideas: Handmade Scarves, Hats and More eBook.

Download a copy of 11 Christmas Gift Ideas: Handmade Scarves, Hats and More; like all of our great eBooks, it’s free!

Need a Quick Gift Idea? Make a Money Notebook

July 4, 2013 by FaveCrafts 2 Comments

This project is brought to you by Latrice Murphy from Any Occasion.

As we head out of graduation season, I am excited to share with you what I created for my nephew. He’s getting ready to take on a big challenge called high school. To make it even tougher, he is on scholarship to play basketball at a local private school. I couldn’t be more proud to be his aunt. I try to give them crafty projects that have a cool twist, so I researched creating a notebook of some kind. Then I thought – MONEY! How awesome would that be? Here is what you’ll need to make the coolest gift giver ever that’s perfect for any occasion.

Materials:

  • Leftover chipboard from packaging
  • Matte medium (or you can use rubber cement)
  • Patterned paper (I used basketball textured paper from DCWV)
  • Mini binder clips
  • Money (I used 25 crisp one dollar bills)

Instructions:

Adhere your chipboard to your patterned paper using the matte medium.

Next you need to create a stack in this order – cover, bills, back cover. Clip them around the top that will be connected as the notebook.  Add a line of glue and spread it with your finger. You’ll want to do this about 4-5 times and let each layer dry between coats. Wipe the cover and back clean with a dry cloth if you get glue on it.

Let the entire notebook dry for about 30 minutes and unclip it. You’re all set!

money3

I can’t tell you how cool he thought this was. I left the cover and back blank so he could stick it in his pocket. The inside is perfect to write a short message to the recipient. I hope you give this a try when you’re thinking of a gift for a teenager or recent grad.

4 Homemade Christmas Gift Ideas For Your Teacher

November 9, 2012 by FaveCrafts 2 Comments

Teaching is a thankless job. Not only do they have to spend all day with rambunctious children but then they have to spend all night grading papers and creating lesson plans. The madness never ends! But this Christmas take time out of your life to thank a teacher with these four great homemade Christmas gift ideas. Create some wonderful and loving teacher gifts. Taking only a small portion out of your day to make something nice for a teacher is a great way to help give thanks for all the amazing things that he or she does on a daily basis.

I have a very close friend of mine who is a middle school teacher and I asked her what gifts she would like to receive and here are some of the responses I got back from her:

Make Ornament-Shape Gift-Card Holders for ChristmasOrnament Shaped Gift Card Holders

A traditional gift to give a teacher is gift cards. All teachers (and really everybody else too) love free money. Brighten up the gift by making your own Christmas-themed gift card holder with this wondrous pattern from Better Homes and Garden. It not only is very easy to make but that little extra effort shows that you care.

Decorative Christmas Baskets Made SimpleDecorative Christmas Basket Filled With School Supplies

Most teachers have to spend their own money on basic school supplies like pens, paper, and post-it notes. Giving teachers a big basket full of school supplies is a stupendous gift that all teachers will be able to appreciate. However, like the gift card idea given above, the gift in and of itself can be boring and unimaginative. Our friends over at AllFreeHolidayCrafts have come up with a solution for this: an easy to make decorative Christmas basket. The basket takes under an hour to make, costs under 10 dollars to create, and it shows your thankfulness.

Coffee Teacher GiftsCoffee and Coffee Cozies

BREAKING NEWS: Teachers love coffee. Coffee is another classic gift that kids love to give their teacher and a gift that teachers love to accept. However, handing a teacher a bag of coffee grounds is just as much fun as it is for this kid to sit through that teacher’s class every day. House On Hill Road came up with an entertaining way to spruce up the gift. Their original idea was to create a fun gift card holder but I think this works even better when giving coffee as a gift.

Picture Of The Class With A Christmas Decoupage Picture Frame

My friend was telling me that when you work so long and when you spend so much time in the classroom, the kids become your second family. There is nothing more sentimental and personal than giving a gift of a picture of the class. Add a great Christmas touch to the picture with this great Christmas Decoupage Picture Frame from yours truly at FaveCrafts.

What is your go-to gift for a teacher during the holiday season?
