Last Minute Father’s Day Crafts

June 18, 2015 by FaveCrafts Leave a Comment

Father’s Day is almost here. Ohmygooodness I completely blanked. Between a new job, working out, wedding crafts, and, you know, eating I completely spaced. Guys, Dad’s do so much for us. I don’t even have to get on a pedestal for everyone to know how much your dad or father-figure do for their families. This holiday seems to get underscored a lot, especially in classrooms, because it is in the middle of the summer, but I feel like we should give our dads the same treatment as any appreciative holiday!

Last Minute Father’s Day Crafts

Man Cave SignsMy mom was always really good about homemade Father’s Day gifts. There is this frame with pictures of all three of us kids, painted, with the year, but this is the best part: my mom put all of our fingerprints on the frame with our full handprints on the back. Kid’s handprint crafts are the best for capturing that moment when they’re that age. I had made him a frame out of bottle caps one year (he still has that thing in his office). Honestly, any pictures of the kids doing a cute thing would make his day. My dad also has a thing for funny t-shirts. Personalize things. Make memories. We need to give Dad’s the appreciation they deserve or any father-figure. I always made two Father’s Day gifts when I was younger because I am very close with my uncle. Father’s Day is about appreciating the man or men in your life that mentor and help you in life.

This Father’s Day, don’t give Dad the same old tie or card. I know those are quick Father’s Day gifts, but these Father’s Day crafts are so much more fun, and he will love the hard work that you put into it. You can upcycle old ties that he doesn’t wear anymore and create a necktie wreath for your door or his office space. You can mimic my mom’s idea with the picture frame or use this recycled pop-can picture frame. If you’re in a quick fix, these gifts are a way to personalize the holiday while still saving you time. He will love your creativity in making these projects. If none of these still don’t fit your fancy, try some of these wire-work crafts and you can make a tie holder.

FaveCrafts Radio November Wrap Up & Giveaways

November 13, 2012 by FaveCraftsBlog 8 Comments

We had such a great time chatting with these amazing men of craft on the November Radio Show! From holiday craft ideas, to their new books and hit television series, these men of craft have got it going on! There’s nothing more fun than crafting with a little advice from the experts, and these men had lots of great tips!

FaveCrafts Radio Men of Craft Show

You can listen to the archived edition right below!

Listen to internet radio with FaveCrafts on Blog Talk Radio

Jonathan Fong
First we chatted with Jonathan Fong, whose designs have been featured on HGTV, DIY, USA Network and Fox. He loves to inspire people creatively, and he sure does! His website, Style With a Smile TV is home to weekly how-to videos on decorating, crafts and entertaining.

The best DIY touch to holiday decorating: Start the party outside! It will help get people in the mood for the holidays. Use luminaries or tall candy canes to dec

orate your your walkway. Jonathan created large candy canes with PVC tubing and his gas grill for some easy and inexpensive holiday decor outdoors!

DIY PVC Candy Canes

Jonathan’s favorite Thanksgiving table setting: Frame table settings are an easy go-to project. Use 11×17 picture frames to make personalized table settings. Fit your plates, silverware, and a picture of each guest into these empty frames for a personalized touch. It will make your guests feel special that you took the extra time to prepare. You can check it out his DIY table setting ideas video.

The best handmade holiday gifts: Personalized soaps make a great holiday gift. Use any regular flat bar soap and put images of your recipients, their kids or their pets on the soap with some Mod Podge. If you coat them in hot wax, the images will be sealed and stay on even after use. These personalized soaps make great hostess gift, favors, or stocking stuffers!

Mark Montano
Next up was Mark Montano – The Blinged Bandit. From television personality to published author, Mark’s creativity knows no bounds. Mark is so crafty, he and his friends built his own separate house, specifically for crafting! It’s a miniature version of mark’s home and his go-to spot to craft!

Mark’s favorite projects from his new book, The Big Ass Book of Bling: Mark’s blue bird bangle, made from wood, easy molding putty and a blue bird head, is one of his favorites. But, his number one craft from his new book, are rings made from microwaved glass. The Fuse Works Microwave Kiln is an amazingly helpful invention that allows you to melt glass in your microwave, and make these glass rings!

We talked baby heads: So, if you have never picked up one of Mark’s books or looked online, you may not have seen some of his cool (or creepy?) baby doll crafts. It is definitely something to check out and as Mark said, you are either team baby head or your not. And surprisingly, even though his is a baby doll fan, he is not a fan of clowns.

Baby Doll Head Paperweight Mark Montano

Mark Montano Baby Head in a Box Project

Favorite crafting tool: While Mark believes, you cant just have one craft tool, if he had to choose it would be E6000 Glue, which he always has on hand.

Mark’s craft room – Mark doesn’t just have a room where he creates all his wonderful projects, he has a fairytale cottage. Behind his house in sunny California is a cute little cottage that looks like something straight out of an enchanted woods that is chock full of every craft supply and tool you can dream of. These photos make it look like the perfect oasis for any hobby.

Mark Montano Craft Room

Quick and easy holiday gift craft: A mixed media necklace made out of whatever you have left in your craft bin can make a great holiday gift. It’s lots of fun and you don’t have to purchase anything.

For more great ideas from Mark, check out his brand new book, The Big Ass Book of Bling! (or win one below)

Steven Brown Glitterville

Stephen Brown
Last, but not least, we spoke with Stephen Brown, the founder of Glitterville! He is the author of Glitterville’s new holiday how-to book series, and can be seen on TLC as a judge on Craft Wars.

Stephen’s experience on craft wars: It has been great to see all the crafty people come and exercise their skill. For the judges, it is a calm experience, the intensity comes along with the crafters trying to complete their challenges.

TLC Craft Wars

The idea behind Glitterville: While planning to start his own site, Stephen found himself always covered in glitter. Finally, a friend mentioned he looked like he was the mayor of some shiny town. It was that day, Stephen decided on the name Glitterville, for his now largely popular website that focuses on all things craft.

A great hostess gift idea for the holiday: It doesn’t have to be a huge gift, just something to show you made a little effort. Small loaves of pumpkin bread wrapped in shiny corsage bags can make a handmade great thank you.

Stephen has just released a new book,  Glitterville’s Handmade Halloween: A glittered guide for whimsical crafting!
