New Pattern Monday: Papercrafts Galore!

July 26, 2010 by FaveCrafts

I went to the store to buy a birthday card once and couldn’t believe how much they were charging for a boring card with a generic stock photo of a birthday cake on the front and some canned “sentiments” printed inside. Five bucks for a card? That’s more than I spent on the gift! Well, not really more, but close. I’ve been making my own cards, invitations, and thank you notes since then, and you should too.

Loose Weave Card: Try weaving with paper strips for an interesting, textured card.

Matchbook Notepad: If you’re always jotting things down on the go, repurpose an old matchbook into a personalized notepad to keep in your purse.

Cupcake Invitation: Capitalize on the cupcake trend by sending out sweet treat themed invitations to your next shindig.

Kids Saturday: Stickers

February 20, 2010 by FaveCrafts

I’m babysitting my three nieces tomorrow, it should be pretty interesting. I have them from the early afternoon until the next day. It’s our first sleepover! The girls are 3, 4 and 8 moths old. The eight month old should be pretty easy to handle, she has great sleeping habits, so I’m not worried at all. It’s the other two I have to keep entertained. Luckily they have a birthday party the morning before they come over, so they should be pretty wiped out from that. I need to think of a few crafts we can do to keep busy.

Kids love stickers. They don’t even care where they put them, they just love stickers. They can be used on paper, on clothes, on hands, on cheeks, wherever. A fun sticker craft for kids can be something as simple as a card or bookmark. All you need is some construction paper, some fun safety scissors, glue and stickers. You of course can help the kids cut the construction paper using the fun scissors. This creates a fun edging to the card or bookmark. You can create layers using differently cut scissors and then glue it however you wish. The kids can then go sticker crazy. They can also use markers to draw anything they want on the cards. This makes for a really fun project to do if you’re babysitting for someone else’s kids. They can then go home and give the cards or bookmarks to their parents as a fun little gift.

Here are some handmade cards that might get your creative juices flowing. You can also print out these free stickers to have fun with.
