Cinema Saturdays: How To Make Embossed Christmas Cards

Take your Christmas cards to the next level by using simple embossing techniques. This AllFreeChristmasCrafts video tutorial from Carlene Eshelman outlines how to make a cute greeting card that can work for anyone you love. You might think of homemade cards and imagine a folded piece of construction paper, crayons and white Elmer’s Glue. Well, this project could not be farther from that notion!

Grab some red scrapbook paper and your favorite dies to create a festive yet understated card. Send the paper through a Big Shot die cut machine to create the embossed surface on the paper. Once you’ve completed that step you can start decorating your card with stamps, paint, ink and more. Whether you want to send a quick greeting or a detailed note, this is a fun and easy craft for anyone who loves to work with paper. You don’t even have to wait for Christmas to make this card! Use embossing techniques on other paper crafts and you’ll be an expert by Christmas.

Announcing: FaveCrafts Annual Valentine’s Day Card Swap!

January 13, 2012 by FaveCrafts 7 Comments

If you were a regular FaveCrafts reader last year, you may remember our Valentine’s Day card swap. It was a huge success, and everyone had such a great time making cards and swapping them with other FaveCrafts readers. So we decided to make it an annual event! Here are the cards I made last year:

If you’ve never heard of swapping before, here’s what it’s all about: Everyone who participates is assigned a partner to send to, and someone is assigned to send to you. Then every swap participant makes/buys/procures the item to be swapped. For our swap, it’s homemade Valentine’s cards. Once you receive your swap partner’s address, you send them a homemade card, and you’ll get one from someone else in return.

I’m excited to “meet” a few readers by sending and receiving cards from you! It’s so much fun to receive homemade Valentines in the mail, and I can’t wait to get more this year.
Want to start swapping? Here’s how:

  1. Register for an account on swap-bot.com. It’s free!
  2. Once your account is set up, go to our swap page here. It’s called “FaveCrafts Valentine’s Card Swap 2.”
  3. Click “Join Swap.” The last day to join is February 1, 2012.
  4. You will be randomly assigned a partner to make a card for. Make sure that it’s homemade in some way!
  5. You will be notified via email when your partner has been assigned to you. Once you receive your partner’s name and address, send your card to them. Please have your card in the mail by February 11, 2012. Please don’t disappoint your partner by neglecting to send a card to them, or sending it late.
  6. Then wait patiently by the mailbox for your Valentine to arrive!

Any questions? Contact us for more info! Now who’s excited to start swapping?

Design Handmade Cards for Soldiers Overseas

March 17, 2011 by FaveCrafts 4 Comments

We just came across this awesome opportunity and thought we’d share it with all of you.  It’s a chance to do a good deed, possibly win an amazing prize, and be crafty… all at the same time!

A 10-year-old Arizona boy came up with the idea of sending a handmade thank-you card to every single U.S. troop overseas.  All 180,000 of them.  Needless to say, he could use some help.

If you’d like to contribute, all you have to do is make 5 cards and send them to Bazzill Basics Paper.  You can find the address here.  While you’re there, download an entry form to mail in with the cards and you’ll be entered into a  drawing to win two FREE tickets to Creative Escape, the ultimate scrapbook indulgence event, which will be held August 25-27 in Phoenix, Arizona (travel and hotel not included).  For every 5 cards you send, you’ll be entered into the drawing, and you can send as many cards as you like.  All cards must be received by July 1, 2011.

There’s nothing better than making a craft that makes someone smile.  And we’re guessing if you win the grand prize, you’ll have a pretty big smile on your face too!

If you’re looking for inspiration, here are some of our favorite greeting card projects:
