Link Love: Glitter Crafts

October 25, 2012 by FaveCrafts

No other topic can divide a group of crafters quite like glitter. Some people love it and use it as often as possible, while others consider it “the herpes of crafting” (the originator of this quote will remain anonymous). Whether you love it or hate it, glitter seems to be the great equalizer in the craft world. Anyone can go out and buy some, and you can use it for both basic and complicated crafts. Lately, it seems glitter is everywhere – it’s used to upcycle old clothes, update thrift store finds or even decorate rocks. You can find glitter crafts for Halloween, Christmas, Easter and everything in between.

Add a little sparkle and fun to your life with glitter. It adds a whimsical, girly touch to even the more basic crafts. If you’re new to crafting, start by upcycling an item you already have and simply add a little glitter here and there. To create Party Glitter Pumps, you only need a pair of shoes and some gold Glitter Blast. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can create your own Glitter and Rhinestone Rings and sprinkle loose glitter onto a Cool2Cast mold.

If you can’t get enough of these projects, be sure to check out 15 Crafts that Shimmer, Glitter, and Sparkle. This crafty collection is filled with crafts you can wear and display.

Whether you like it or not, glitter isn’t going away anytime soon. In fact, it seems that glitter crafts will continue to get more and more popular.

FaveCrafts 365 Hot New Glue Discovery!

April 30, 2011 by Maria

We love sharing when we find a product that makes a difference in our crafting. Recently while doing my FaveCrafts.com weekly product review I discovered a quick glue that blew my mind. I know that sounds very dramatic (and I was my mother’s “dramatic child”–her words, not mine), but the applicator on this glue was very well thought out. Until I found this glue, I did not use quick glues too much. Too messy. And once opened, the nozzle would clog and the glue would dry out.

Check out this video! You’ll love this glue too!

Available at CutRateCrafts.com!

I got a little carried away with myself and stated that the rolling credits at the end would give instuctions for entering the giveaway! And then I forgot to include the instructions! Sorry!

To enter this giveaway please put the last project you did that used glue in the comments of this post!  Thank you for your understanding!

FaveCrafts 365 Hot Tip! Hot! Hot! Hot!

April 2, 2011 by Maria

Recently while crafting with my mother-in-law Elizabeth I was reminded that safety is always first when it comes to crafting! We do certain skills and use some tools so much that we can over time take for granted that care should be used.

Hot. Glue. Gun! Need I say more? Any crafter who has crafted for any length of time has a hot glue gun battle scar that he or she probably wishes they’d never experienced! It’s like lava! It’s like the fires of a forest gone wild! It hurts! And it can leave a scar!

I’m a big fan of warm glue and glue guns, and some glue guns come with dual temperature switches. Keep in mind you shouldn’t put hot glue in a warm glue gun.  I have a hot tip for all those who use hot glue guns… Just watch the video!

Need a glue gun or glue sticks? Check out CutRateCrafts.com for the best prices! And the site now has a blog!!! Click here to read!

From school glue to wood glue, we have you covered here at FaveCrafts.com.

FaveCrafts 365 Tape Runner Tip!

March 4, 2011 by Maria

Was there life before the tape runner? I don’t think so! This is one of the coolest tools to come our way! I use mine on a daily basis and have learned from experience that you need to take care of this tool to keep that tape running smoothly!

I thought I’d share my best tip in the video and also include a link to this article that covers tape runners from A-Z!

FaveCrafts 365 Many Glues Many Uses

February 9, 2011 by Maria

If you are like me you probably have more than one glue in your crafting toolbox. It would be wonderful if one glue did it all, but that glue hasn’t been invented yet.  The key to choosing a glue is to know what kind of surface you are trying to bond. There are two basic surfaces. Do you know what they are? You will after watching this FaveCrafts 365!

You can get the best variety and price on glues on CutRateCrafts.com. Check it out! It’s my favorite online craft store.

Ask Maria “What is 2-Way Glue?”

May 7, 2010 by Maria

Question

I keep hearing about 2-way glue. What is it?

Anne via FaveCrafts on Facebook

This is specialty glue most often used in paper art and crafts. It’s liquid glue that usually has a hint of color like blue or pink. You can use it as a permanent or temporary adhesive, hence the name 2-way. If you apply it and bond with it while wet it is permanent glue. If you apply and bond with it after it dries (glue becomes clear in color) it is temporary or repositionable glue. Its 2 glues in one. Look for it in applicators that have fine to broad tips so you have excellent control over glue placement.

I found a wonderful video on how to use this glue on the Sakura of America website and recently did a product review of the Quickie Glue pen for FaveCrafts.com.

Ask Maria a question, you know you want to! Just drop her a line at Maria@FaveCrafts.com. Maria Nerius is the Resident Craft Expert for FaveCrafts.com.
