Make Your Crafts Sparkle with New eBook from FaveCrafts and Krylon

I think we can all agree that things are just better when they have a bit of sparkle and shine to them.  Am I right?

Whether it’s a shimmery shirt or shiny wall art, there’s something about sparkle that just seems to bring a smile to people’s faces.

As crafters, we’re probably the most keenly aware of this idea since crafting is all about making things pop.  No matter what we’re making, adding a bit of glitter and shimmer always helps   🙂

Our friends at Krylon are totally on board with the sparkle trend and have just released a brand new eBook full of glittery craft projects.  Download a free copy of the How to Create 14 Sparkly Craft Projects Using Krylon Glitter Blast eBook to discover all of their cool ideas!

Seriously, you won’t believe the amazing things that you can do with a can of glittery spray paint.  I know I sure didn’t!   Some examples:  Did you know that you can decorate your Easter eggs using a coat of dazzling Glitter Blast paint?  Also you can use the paint to add some sparkle to other holiday decorations like pinecones for Christmas and pumpkins for Halloween.  So cool!  You can even paint a metal mailbox with Krylon’s Glitter Blast paint!  Your neighbors will all be very jealous!

But perhaps my favorite idea in the Glitter Blast eBook is the Glimmering Guitar.  How awesome would it be to give a custom paint job for guitars and other instruments?  Rock stars and musicians definitely need a healthy dose of glitter for when they’re on stage!  I’m going to take my nephew’s guitar and turn it into a shimmery black masterpiece just as soon as I’m done writing this blog post!

Want to discover these ideas and more?  Get your glitter on by downloading a free copy of the How to Create 14 Sparkly Craft Projects Using Krylon Glitter Blast eBook right now!

So, what are you looking forward to making with Krylon’s Glitter Blast paint?  We want to know!

Crochet Snow Flakes

Snow flakes are usually in order around the holiday season. The snowflake I am showing here will take a few days to complete from start to finish. It requires glue and glitter to turn the yarn into a hardened snowflake that can hang freely. It is beyond spectacular when you are done. These are very much in high demand for giving away as gifts. They are so unique to themselves.

How to: Craft with Glitter

Glitter is one of the most versatile materials to craft with. You can use glitter on fabric, glass, plastic, paper, or wood. You can wear glitter in your hair, on your nails, in your makeup, or on your clothing and accessories. You can knit or crochet with glitter yarn, you can use glitter with rubber stamping in scrapbooking and cardmaking, and you can add a little extra glitz to everything in your home with glitter. Everyone likes a little sparkle now and then, from children to teens to grandparents. Use this guide to get you started with glitter!

Types of glitter

Low-Grade Chunky Glitter: This is the kind of glitter you used in school to make hand-print Thanksgiving decorations and other art projects. You may still have some stuck to your kitchen table from that craft you glittered 20 years ago.

Spray-On Glitter: Use this type of glitter on fabric or in projects such as wreath-making that need a uniform coating of sparkle. Spray-on glitter comes in an aerosol can, like spray paint.

Glitter Glue: Squeeze this gel onto paper projects, clothing you’re embellishing, or other crafts that need a three dimensional glitter finish.

Fine Powder Glitter: Use this glitter to emboss with rubber stamping projects or in your scrapbooks.

Ways to Craft with Glitter

Crochet or Knit with Glitter Yarn: Glitter yarn isn’t exactly glitter in the traditional sense; rather, it’s yarn that is mixed with strands of metallic thread for a glittery look. Check out these gorgeous glittery yarn projects on FaveCrafts:

Tips and Tricks for Working with Glitter:

What are your favorite glitter projects? Do you have any more tips and tricks for crafters who want to begin working with glitter?

International Quilt Festival: Embellishments

Recently I attended the International Quilt Festival in Chicago, Illinois. It was the first quilt festival I’ve been to and I was quite intrigued. When I first walked into the room it was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. There were award-winning quilts hanging up for all to see, booths to my left, booths to my right and beautiful colors and designs.

Along with all the colorful quilts were other booths and demos. At one booth I noticed some cute bags and purses in the shape of an owl. These craft and quilt designers are talented in so many ways. There are so many unique techniques to be used it was a thrill.

While walking from aisle to aisle I noticed a glitter demonstration. Giving this demonstration was a representative of Embellishment Village. I immediately stopped to watch what she was doing. All this glitter, sparkle and bright colors, I just couldn’t look away. What she was teaching was how to create designs with washable glitter. This glitter can be used to embellish quilts, bags, clothes and more. It’s great because even after many washes the glitter will still stay on.

To make the glitter stay on she used a foil pen which has a tacky glue in it. Along with the glitter she put foil on the glue and then pulled the foil back. In doing so, the foil leaves a colorful resin behind creating a beautiful design. These foiling products again, can be used on quilts and wearables.
