Link Love: Chevron Crafts

September 25, 2013 by FaveCrafts 5 Comments

Chevron is one trend that just won’t go away … and there’s nothing wrong with that! Those little squiggles seem to be popping up everywhere – from clothing designs to decor motifs. You can also add chevrons to knit and crochet patterns for added texture and dimension.  This is a simple design that anyone can replicate on their own, making it a fantastic choice for beginning crafters.

I like chevron because it can be seamlessly added to almost any craft project. I have a ton of bobby pins lying around, so DIY Bobby Pin Earrings seem like the perfect craft. You can add a chevron design using acrylic paint or nail polish – talk about an easy jewelry craft! I also love the look of Neon Chevron Cards. Why spend money on generic greetings when you can make these bright and sunny cards? You won’t believe how easy it is to create the intricate designs featured on each of these cards. If you’re more comfortable with a crochet hook, never fear – there are plenty of ways to add chevrons to your favorite crochet projects. Start working on a Crochet Chevron Table Setting now so you can use the pieces all winter long. Knitters, don’t think we forgot about you! A Chevron Scarf is a beginner friendly pattern that makes a great gift for the holiday season!

Chevrons have never been more popular, so now is the time to get in on the trend! Experiment with colors and sizes – you can’t go wrong with this simple yet striking design.

3 Ways to Decorate Easter Eggs: Switch It Up This Year

March 15, 2013 by FaveCrafts 1 Comment

This post is brought to you by Latrice Murphy from Any Occasion.

Hey there, FaveCrafters! I’m happy to be back on the FaveCrafts Blog today to share a super quick Easter decor tutorial. I have three ways to create Easter eggs using supplies you probably already have in your craft studio.

Materials:

  • Paper Mache eggs
  • Mod Podge
  • Glitter
  • Washi tapes in various colors
  • Scraps of patterned paper
  • Mason Jar
  • Paper shreds
  • Shimmer Mists
  • Hot glue gun

Washi Tape Egg

This first egg is the easiest. You grab your Washi Tape collection and just add small strips to the egg. Once totally covered cover it with Mod Podge to secure it for years  to come.

Glittered Egg

This one is pretty easy too, but I’m going with a new trend this time – GOLD! It has made a serious comeback in the fashion industry and paper crafting. I’m not usually a fan of gold, but seeing it mixed with color has turned me. Start by liberally covering your paper mache egg with Mod Podge. Next, pour some course glitter in a bowl and toss your egg in and roll it around. Let it dry completely before adding it to your decor. You could also go back over the egg with Mod Podge to secure the glitter, but it’s kind of messy so I left mine as is.

Decoupage Egg

Lastly, we have the artsy egg. I love decoupage art because you can play with layering. I grabbed some of  my spring scrap paper and tore it into little pieces. I also tore up a piece of vintage book paper. I then did the same step as the Washi Tape egg. I added Mod Podge first and then smoothed the paper pieces on and in the end went over the entire thing with Mod Podge to secure it all.

It only took me about 1 hr to make 12 different eggs and to get them into the jars. Visit my blog to learn how to make the jars.

Link Love: Heart Crafts for Valentine’s Day

January 24, 2013 by FaveCrafts 1 Comment

Love it or hate it, there’s no denying that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. While I don’t have a special someone, I still love Valentine’s Day. In fact, every year I draw a heart around the date on my calendar. To me, Valentine’s Day is a time to show you care. It’s also a chance to decorate and eat a ton of delicious candy. What could be better?

There are plenty of projects that can satisfy your creativity before and after Valentine’s Day. A Wired Heart is a fun, unexpected project that can be displayed all year. Since Valentine’s Day occurs during a chilly season, you might want a taste of the outdoors. A Valentine’s Day Topiary allows you to celebrate without heading into the cold. Hearts are the true symbol of Valentine’s Day, but they can used in art projects all year long. A Chic Decorative Heart looks great in any room of the house.

You don’t have to go crazy with red and pink supplies to celebrate Valentine’s Day. In fact, simply making crafts in the shape of hearts can be a fun and easy way to decorate. Best of all, when you think outside the box and use unexpected materials and colors, your crafts become much more practical. You can wear sparkly heart-shaped shoe clips or use a heart-shaped coin wallet all year long.

  1. Paper Valentine Candy Filled Hearts from In My Own Style
  2. Paper Heart Ornaments from Morning Creativity
  3. DIY Glitter Heart Art from Ellinee
  4. Valentine Wreath from Design Improvised
  5. Hand Warmers Valentine Heart from Petit Elefant
  6. Leather Heart Coin Purse from Fabric Paper Glue
  7. Tiny Crocheted Hearts from The Party Artisan
  8. Heart Hair Clip from At the Picket Fence

Link Love: Glitter Crafts

October 25, 2012 by FaveCrafts 3 Comments

No other topic can divide a group of crafters quite like glitter. Some people love it and use it as often as possible, while others consider it “the herpes of crafting” (the originator of this quote will remain anonymous). Whether you love it or hate it, glitter seems to be the great equalizer in the craft world. Anyone can go out and buy some, and you can use it for both basic and complicated crafts. Lately, it seems glitter is everywhere – it’s used to upcycle old clothes, update thrift store finds or even decorate rocks. You can find glitter crafts for Halloween, Christmas, Easter and everything in between.

Add a little sparkle and fun to your life with glitter. It adds a whimsical, girly touch to even the more basic crafts. If you’re new to crafting, start by upcycling an item you already have and simply add a little glitter here and there. To create Party Glitter Pumps, you only need a pair of shoes and some gold Glitter Blast. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can create your own Glitter and Rhinestone Rings and sprinkle loose glitter onto a Cool2Cast mold.

If you can’t get enough of these projects, be sure to check out 15 Crafts that Shimmer, Glitter, and Sparkle. This crafty collection is filled with crafts you can wear and display.

Whether you like it or not, glitter isn’t going away anytime soon. In fact, it seems that glitter crafts will continue to get more and more popular.
