10 Ways to Make Homemade Playdough and Homemade Slime

September 20, 2014 by AllFreeKidsCrafts

10 Ways to Make Homemade Playdough and Homemade SlimePlaydough and slime are making a come-back! When I was younger, playdough and slime was all the rage among my friends, especially the little playdough kits that you could use to make your little plastic people grow crazy hair. The slime was equally as fun because of the ooey-gooey feeling between your fingers. We always used to pretend that they were little aliens.

Now, I can only imagine how much better playing with playdough and slime would have been if I had learned how to make homemade playdough and homemade slime. When I saw the Giant Bubble Slime Recipe, I literally did a double-take. Now you can blow bubbles with your slime? I thought to myself that this slime recipe would be a huge hit for my niece. She loves bubbles and slime, so putting those two together would have her overjoyed.

These days there are just so many awesome ways that playdough and slime can be made! All of these recipes will definitely have your little ones super excited about being able to be a little inventive with their toys. I have officially become the “favorite” aunt because of these fun recipes that I gave my little niece. Every time I go to visit her, she asks if I have a new recipe for her.

Incredibly Easy Homemade Playdough

Galaxy GooHomemade playdough is definitely the star of the kids’ craft world. Your little ones can take regular playdough and put a fun new twist on it! They can make Galaxy Goo that looks exactly like the night sky, or they can make the Edible Oatmeal Playdough Recipe. When you tell them that they can now eat their homemade playdough, they won’t believe their little ears! Now they can make their wonderful creations and eat them, which is most kids’ dream when it comes to playing with playdough.

These recipes are so simple that they could probably learn how to make slime all by themselves. They will have a blast putting a fun summertime twist on their homemade slime with the Sparkly Ocean Slime Recipe. 5 Sewing Projects You Didn’t Know You Needed

April 21, 2014 by AllFreeSewing

Get excited, because today we’re looking at sewing projects you didn’t know you needed. You’ll find that this collection of tutorials is not only ingenious, but easy. Take your extra fabric scraps and use them on these easy sewing projects that are sure to come in handy in your day-to-day life. Ready to find out what these sewing projects are? Let’s get started.

1. Brr! Draft Blocker

Brr! Draft Blocker

It doesn’t matter if you’ve got a hundred year old house or a brand new one, you know you feel that draft. At first it doesn’t bother you, but then you realize that the polar vortexes don’t know what “warn out welcome” means and that your Raynaud’s syndrome is near a state of alarm. What do you do? Freeze like the little match girl, or address the issue? Obviously, you tap into your fabric stash and create this awesome draft blocker from Patchwork Posse. Let’s avoid frostbite if we can.

2. DIY Car Sun Shade

DIY Car Sun Shade

On the other end of the temperature spectrum we’ve got a suggestion for one of those, “feels like I’m in a skillet” days. You know when you drive your car (every day) in July? You leave it in the parking lot, run into the Jewel to grab a carton of milk, and come back to an actual oven. Has the devil himself taken residence in your LeSabre? No, it’s just the sun. This DIY sun shade from Craft Snob is perfect to keep your seat cushions cool and your carton of milk from skimming on the way home.

3. Microwave Bowl Holder

Microwave Bowl Holder

Imagine that July sun that we just discussed, and imagine it indoors, on a bowl, burning your once baby-soft hands. That’s the feeling you repeatedly have when you take that bowl of leftovers out of the microwave. You know it’s hot, you know you’ve been burned before, but you’re so hungry and the food is literally at your fingertips. The primitive drive to hunt for your meal will never go away, but that burn can with this DIY microwave bowl cozy from Nannynotes2u.

4. Bowl Cover

Bowl Cover

For those of you thinking, “You just did that one!” you’re absolutely wrong. A bowl cover, while still accessorizing one of man’s finest creations, performs a completely different function than a bowl holder. The holder protects the person, the cover protects the food. Why is this something you need? How much money to you dish out on plastic wrap? What do you do with the plastic wrap when you’re done? Throw it away. If a equals b and b equals c… that’s right, you’re throwing away money. Take advantage of this easy sewing project from Collecting the Moments and save some money and your favorite casserole.

5. Reusable Swiffer Duster Cloths

Reusable Swiffer Duster Cloths

Alright, everyone loves Swiffers. They gently reminded the human race that dusting was still necessary, despite our stumble into the twenty-first century. However, if you have a home and live on Earth, then you need to (or should) dust a lot. If you’re the type that loves to clean sweep their house every week, then this DIY sewing project will save you a bundle. If you’re more of the “never has cleaned in their life” type, then this will save you from buying a box of Swiffers and only using one sheet. Take your stash and put it to work on this reusable necessity from Sew Much Ado.

Did we get it right? What are some items that you absolutely need?

Marisa Pawelko – The Modern Surrealist

August 20, 2011 by TheCrochetCrowd

Marisa Pawelko Modern Surrealist Artist and Diva
Marisa Pawelko – The Modern Surrealist

Marisa Pawelko is by far one of the most inspirational artist I have ever met. I’ve met some great people but her artwork would be something I would collect due to the incredible nature of her work. It’s loud, unusual, collectible, and truly creative peices I have ever witnessed.

I met Marisa at Crafting and Hobby Association. I had never heard of her. I seen a table display she had set up. Her face was put onto soup cans. I thought to myself, that’s the craziest coolest thing I had ever seen. In fact, the picture you see here was the same picture. I thought to myself, Who is this woman?
You can check out her website at The Modern Surrealist.
I found Marisa to be so approachable and friendly. She’s got a great head on her shoulders and she is doing exactly what she is passionate about. SHe’s been working with Wescott in promoting Duck Tape. You can see her in this video, she’s creating The Duck Brand Beads.
Her creativity and artwork is something I would love to collect! Her high heel earrings in this photograph was something she was wearing in person when I met her. I was so captivated by them.
Marisa also has a Facebook Page that is worth taking a look at. She has lots of photographs of her work.
Don’t forget to check out lots of free crochet patterns at http://www.allfreecrochet.com.

I wish I knew more about crochet. As the editor of AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns.com, I get to look at the very best crochet sites, blogs and forum.  Although I know basic stitches and have even taken a crochet class, I still feel like a total novice.  I love the look of crochet and wish I could create something to give to my family and friends.

In particular, I’m obsessed with amigurumi. I must admit that before I started working with FaveCrafts and AllFreeCrochet, I didn’t know what amigurumi was. But once I started digging up more and more projects, I couldn’t believe how many cool options there were out there.

Here are some of my favorite crochet amigurumi patterns:

  • Goldfish Friends Amigurumi from Sherry for Chiwaluv Amigurumi Critters – Reminds me of my all time favorite fish, Nemo.
  • Blue Bunny from Deb Richey for Caron Yarn – The definition of adorable. I want to make this for my little cousins.
  • Bunny Toy from Lily Sugar’n Cream – A great project for Easter!

  • Freddy the Froggy from Diane Buyers for Stormy’z Crochet – It’s all in the eyes.
  • Teddy Bear Crochet Pattern from Bernat – I want this little guy to be my snuggle buddy.
  • Snowman Family Crochet Pattern from Bernat- What a happy bunch!

Hopefully in time I can create some of these great crochet amigurumi patterns!

What type of crafting have you always wanted to learn?

Don’t Break The Bank This Holiday Season

December 1, 2010 by AllFreeChristmasCrafts

"12 Fun & Fabulous Mod Podge Projects" eBookThis year I’m on a tight budget.  I just moved into my very own apartment and am now living on my own.  I now have to pay my own bills, buy my own food and furnish my own space.  Needless to say, my friends and family shouldn’t expect big gifts this year.

If you’re like me, you don’t want to spend a ton on gifts but you want to show you care.  When I was a kid, I used to make my parents gifts ever year for Christmas.  One year, I made a scrapbook.  Another year, I creates coasters out of CD cases. These gifts may not have been the most polished gifts in the world, but they meant a lot to my parents and my dad still keeps my coaster on his nightstand.

That’s why I’m so excited about FaveCraft and Plaid’s “12 Fun & Fabulous Mod Podge Projects” eBook.  This free ebook is fantastic for a few reasons.  First of all, there’s an easy-to-follow tutorial on Mod Podge.  It’s really easy to follow and perfect for beginners like me.  Second, there are some really interesting projects.  I really want to make the Monogrammed Can Koozies (page 19) for my friends – they would work perfectly at an tailgate!  Also, the Live Laugh Love Colorful Canvases (page 21) would look great in my friends’ rooms and apartments.  This FREE downloadable “12 Fun & Fabulous Mod Podge Projects” eBook is perfect for the holiday season.

If you love Mod Podge or just want to make inexpensive homemade gifts, download “12 Fun & Fabulous Mod Podge Projects” eBook.  Each project has easy-to-follow instructions with pictures.  It doesn’t get much easier!

Happy crafting and, of course, happy holidays!

Hook’d On Scrapp’n

October 8, 2010 by TheCrochetCrowd

Have you been caught by the creative bug of scrap booking? Teresa Church, of Clinton Ontario is passionate about the world of preserving her memories through “Scrapp’n”. As crafting sections such as fabrics and yarns have depleted from the shelves at the stores, the scrap booking mania has expanded. After speaking to Church, her level of enthusiasm draws you in and you suddenly feel like you need to run out and buy up a storm of scrapping materials to be part of her energy wave.

It’s about telling the life story of a subject, person, or event that has happened. Photo albums are great; however, why not add some embellishments such as ribbons, stickers, or extra writing to explain the moment captured. It allows the scrapper to document who people are in the pictures and reduces figuring out who people are in the future to come. Scrapping solves some mysteries that may be left behind and is a wonderful reference resource to trigger memories that may have been forgotten.

Scrapp’n is art. The way you cut your materials, display the pictures or treasures you want to keep, and how you colour code your book is extremely personal. Church explains that it reveals the level of creativity along your scrapp’n journey. Looking at the first books and comparing to how much more creative you have become is satisfying to see your personal growth creativity wise while walking down memory lane.

Church even attends “Scrapp’n Retreats” for getting away and diving head first into her artistic getaway. Together with 20 – 25 people they scrap all weekend long. They share memories, trade tools, try interesting ideas, and leave with finished scrap books. It allows them to sit down and really think about their art. Think of it this way, she is preserving her memories and creating new memories at the retreat while she is making her books.

The appeal to scrapp’n is the inexpensive start up costs. You can start off with a few items and slowly build your collection of supplies over time. She’s a crafter at heart and like many of us will “Bee Line” directly to the crafting section before walking around the store. Church emphasizes that Canada seems to lack of the availability of finding supplies. She’s talking about large retailers that don’t change their products for lengthy periods of time. She finds herself ordering most of her stuff online from the United States to keep her books unique.

If you like to see your family and friends in pictures all around the house, than this craft is definitely for you. Enter the world of scrapp’n and see if this art is for you!
