FaveCrafts 365 What is Friendly Plastic?

April 4, 2011 by Maria

Yesterday I showed you some beautiful earrings made from Friendly Plastic and thought some of you might be curious as to exactly what Friendly Plastic is! This material was widely available when I first started crafting; as a matter of fact, the first design I ever sold was made of Friendly Plastic and purchased by AMACO as a show piece for their booth at trade shows.

Watch this video to find out more about Friendly Plastic. And to purchase Friendly Plastic just visit CutRateCrafts.com.

FaveCrafts 365 French Market New Orleans Handmade Heaven

April 3, 2011 by Maria

During our trip to New Orleans we visited the famous French Market, which is an open air market where people can open up stalls to sell their wares. A majority of the vendors are selling purchased items to resell, but many are artists and crafters selling handmade items from jewelry to delightful paintings. We had a great time and purchased a few things! Check out this video to discover our treasures.

If you like working with Friendly Plastic or are curious to try your hand creating with this material check out CutRateCrafts.com for great prices and variety!

Craft Trends: Blast from the Past

These bracelets boldly make a fashion statement with color and shine.

The first design I ever sold was a Friendly Plastic pin. I had cut out the shape of a spool and sewing needle, baked it, then wrapped floss around the spool, threaded the end of the floss through the needle, and glued the needle to the top center of the spool. I was in heaven. I loved working with Friendly Plastic because you could do so much with it. But like many techniques, Friendly Plastic kind of faded into the background as I tried different mediums and projects.

The butterflies are made using the Slash technique created by Jana Ewy.

Friendly Plastic has been re-introduced to the next generation by AMACO. And this isn’t your mama’s Friendly Plastic! Designers like Jana Ewy have created some fabulous techniques and incredible projects! Jana is a guest blogger here at FaveCrafts and you need to check out her fantastic designs. The techniques are easy to do and the results are awesome! Everything old is new again and Friendly Plastic has never looked better.
