Link Love: Fall Leaf Crafts

September 13, 2012 by FaveCrafts

It’s mid-September and all signs are pointing to fall. I have mixed feelings about this seasonal change, mostly because I cherish those long, lazy summer evenings. It’s okay though, because I can now look forward to all of  the pretty colors in nature. During the summer, the trees are a bright green but come autumn, the leaves begin to fall and the ground is blanketed with beautiful, colorful leaves that crunch under your feet. It’s time to embrace this new season and make crafts that emphasize the beauty of autumn. This fall, wear leaves on your clothes, hang them in your home or incorporate them in your gifts.

You can gather leaves for a variety of projects or simply use materials such as felt, paper or leather to create your own. Be sure to include muted red, burnt oranges and soft yellows in your projects!

What’s great about fall crafts that incorporate leaves is that they can be tailored to fit all skill levels. If you have kids, use fun products like shaving cream to make your own leaves. Better yet, add some sparkle to your space with some Prized Pumpkins. This is a great opportunity to bond as a family and teach them about the changing seasons. Plus, you can display the finished project all season long.

If you need a little time to yourself, make a more complicated project such as the Apple and Pineapple Wreath. This elegant and simple home decor craft looks great on your door or hung over your mantel. Because this project utilizes spray paint and pins, it’s better if older crafters give it a whirl. If you love to hang wreath in the fall, consider any of these 19 Decorative Front Door Wreaths – it’s a great way to greet guests.

Sure, it’s sad that summer is over. The upside is that you can now change the way you look at crafts and celebrate all the great aspects of fall. Embrace the wonderful aspects of the season and add a few leaves to your next craft project.

Link Love: Wreaths You’ll Fall in Love With!

August 16, 2012 by FaveCrafts

Even though there are still a few days of summer left, there’s no denying that autumn is approaching.  There’s a chill in the air, the rainy days have returned, and most importantly, the stores are stocking up on Halloween candy!

One of my favorite things about fall is decorating for the season.  I love the warm colors and the smell of fresh cinnamon, clove, pine, and fire.  When it comes to fall decorations, a great place to start is creating a seasonal wreath.  Since visitors are in abundance during the fall, having a beautiful wreath on your door is a great way to greet family and friends for Halloween and Thanksgiving.

I love this Circle of Autumn Wreath.  This is a project that truly sparkles and it looks easy and fun to make.  I love how the leaves look with that fun and snazzy glitter coat.

I’m also a big fan of using recycled materials, so I was sure to bookmark this Pretty Paper Wreath when I saw it.  What this wreath lacks in color, it makes up for in design.  You could also use newspaper to achieve a similar look, or cut up an old paper bag if you want it to look like burlap.

Finally, this Colorful Fall Wreath is perfect for the thrifty crafter.  You could easily make this wreath out of items you’d find at the dollar store, so you can get the look you love for pennies on the dollar.  That’s my kind of crafting!

Want more fall wreath ideas?  Check out our collection of 19 Decorative Front Door Wreaths for Fall!

We’re not the only ones who are ready to start decorating with leaves and pumpkins.  Here are a few other fall wreaths from bloggers all over the Web.

The Secret to Easy Holiday Crafting: Watch and Learn!

November 1, 2011 by AllFreeHolidayCrafts

For me, crafting is sort of like shopping.  The idea of going to the mall and taking my clothes on and off and trying to figure out what looks good and what doesn’t is just so… exhausting.  But I also love clothes and want to keep my closet stocked with cute shirts and nice jeans.  So shopping is something that I look forward to and dread at the same time.  That’s why I always go shopping with a friend.  Not only is it great to have company and someone to commiserate with when pair after pair of jeans just won’t fit, it’s also a great motivation to actually GO shopping.  My friend Alyssa calls me and says “we’re going shopping” and, as much as I don’t want to, I go.  And guess what?  I end up having a good time.

I’m the same way with crafting.  It’s something I want to do and I always love the finished product, but the actual process, especially the whole “getting started” thing is a little bit intimidating for me.  I never quite know if I have the right materials, if I’m doing the steps right, if my project is looking how it’s supposed to at each stage of the process and a whole host of other concerns.

That’s why it was such a huge moment for me when I first discovered craft tutorials on YouTube.  I guess I had never thought about it before, but once I found one, I was hooked.  Click after click after click, I just kept finding more awesome videos that actually SHOWED you how to make things.  And the people giving the instructions were so nice and friendly.  It was sort of like I had a whole new bunch of crafting buddies, except I had never met any of them before!  Since I live by myself and usually am a solitary crafter, it was really nice to have some company while I made my projects!

With the holidays just around the corner, you’re probably planning a bunch of DIY projects.  If you’re like me and would rather follow along with someone as they make something instead of just reading a list of steps, you’ll appreciate the collection of videos on the AllFreeHolidayCrafts YouTube channel.  There are tons of great ideas for the upcoming holiday season, including a Christmas Card Gift Set and instructions to make Easy Poinsettia Flowers to decorate for Christmas.  There are also some fun seasonal projects on the channel.  My favorites are the Fall Blocks Tutorial and the Winter Wreath Tutorial.

Check out a couple of the videos below and then be sure to subscribe to the channel (it’s the little yellow “Subscribe” button on the left of the screen).  That way you’ll know whenever a new craft video is posted!

Happy Crafting!
