In my daily browsing of Etsy today, I was excited to see that they are highlighting handmade goods that reflect the slow food movement. As a budding pastry chef, I was of course intrigued and thrilled to browse these great items. Some of my favorites are below.

lurearts has a great set of 4 dessert bowls that she made on a wheel and then glazed. I think these bowls are beautiful and there’s no such thing as having too many bowls for ice cream.

This tempered glass trivet/cheese tray/cutting board from kermitbiggs would be a bright and beautiful addition to any kitchen. These would go perfectly with the green hanging lights above the island in my kitchen.

Over on FaveCrafts, we have a number of great decorating ideas for your kitchen. I like this harvest topiary for an autumn accent or centerpiece. It adds some brilliant color to any table.

Passover Picks from Etsy

My original idea for this post was to choose 10 items from Etsy that in some way represented each of the 10 plagues. But I decided that was too morbid, even for my taste. So I went with a more general Passover theme, and while Passover isn’t exactly a crafting holiday, I did find a few great items on Etsy.

Matzah Kippa from racheltreasures

I was pretty excited that someone made an item around the plagues. Check out these 10 plague wine markers from Yontifications.

I found the idea of a paper mache faux shank bone intriguing. Since most of my mom’s family is vegetarian, they always put a dog bone on the seder plate in place of a lamb shank. Interesting alternative from braidedbeings.

Etsy Pick: tofunkytown

Today’s Etsy Pick is tofunkytown, a shop full of retro-themed cigarette case wallets. The stainless steel cases are great for business cards, cash, credit cards or IDs. tofunkytown won me over with the 1969 Andy Warhol Esquire cover, which combines my love for Pittsburgh (Andy Warhol’s birthplace) and Esquire, one of few good magazines left.

Today we have a guest project from Nicole Pederson who has a beautiful Etsy shop chock full of handmade jewelry, clip-art sets and fantasy art like what you see below. She put together this project for creating a glass tile pendant with pre-made digital printed images from her digital collage sheets. You can find the step-by-step tutorial for the glass tile pendant here.

Etsy Pick: Pick Six

In honor of my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers winning their SIXTH Super Bowl (that’s a record people), I picked out my favorite Etsy products that come in sets of six or are related to the number six. (In case you were wondering, there aren’t very many Steelers-related or Super Bowl-themed Etsy items)

This beautiful card from laura brown is great because it features both “six” and is a great card for the quickly approaching Valentine’s Day.

These petal bowls from spiritdancing are wheel-thrown and hand-sculpted. I love all the shades of blue. So pretty.

These monogrammed notecards from papernosh won me over through my love of papercraft and obsession with all things chocolate brown and turquoise. Get them in sets of six.

Etsy Pick: Pop-up Cards

January 27, 2009 by FaveCrafts 3 Comments

I’ve never met anybody who doesn’t love a good pop-up book or card. I am always so impressed by the thought process required to conceptualize and execute the creation of a pop-up, which is why I chose tracychong for today’s Etsy Pick. tracychong creates beautiful pop-up cards for birthdays, weddings, Valentine’s Day or just because. I love the simple, clean designs and the fact that there is ample white space to sign or write a personal message (though I’m not sure I would be able to bring myself to write on these beauties).

Etsy Pick: Crafty Kitchen

I am a kitchen gadget addict. I can spend hours just browsing the kitchen department of a Bed, Bath and Beyond.  I have drawers overflowing with items like dumpling makers and apple corers. I own more small kitchen electrics than the housewares section of Macys. I have a problem.

So browing Etsy this morning, I decided I would become my own enabler (if that’s even possible). In my hunt for “all things kitchen,” I came across a few standouts. These are my favorites.

These Diet Coke Salt and Pepper shakers come from recycledthings. Not only are recycledthing’s projects whimsical and unique, but they are made from recycled materials, making them eco-friendly.

My parents collect wine glasses and I’ve always been a fan of the funky, colorful ones. These hand-painted glasses from vsilcoxdesigns would be a good addition to their collection.

I like this casserole/food carrier from prettyinpurple because it’s something I never would have thought of. It’s a great idea to have something to transport tupperware in, especially when you are driving. And it’s cute. Where was this when I was attempting to transport a cupcake tower for a friend’s birthday?

Etsy Pick – The Third Night of Hanukkah.

December 23, 2008 by FaveCrafts Leave a Comment

In honor of tonight being the third night of Hanukkah, I grabbed some things off Etsy that relate to the number three or come in sets of 3.

I love penguins. These represent the phrase “See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” (From fliepsiebieps)

There are never two peas in a pod anyway. (Three Peas in a Pod Necklace from sudlow)

Because I’m a writer, I can truly appreciate the value of an old school typewriter. This vintage ring is made from an old typewriter key. (From KeysandMemories)

Happy Hanukkah!
