Top 5 Christmas Crafts for June

July 8, 2011 by AllFreeChristmasCrafts

Welcome to our inaugural Top 5 Christmas crafts post! In case you didn’t know, AllFreeChristmasCrafts sends out a weekly newsletter, Crafty Christmas, which is filled with fun holiday ideas and projects. In June, we featured a wide range of topics including religious crafts and projects for girls. Did you miss out on these great projects? Never fear! Here are our most loved, most talked about and most desired projects from June.

Top Trends in June – ruffles, inexpensive crafts, simple crafts.

5. Lace Angels Tutorial

This project is so amazingly versatile. You can hang a lace angel as decoration, use it as gift wrapping or make it into an ornament. To make your own angel, you need a sewing needle and embroidery needle (no need to run out an purchase a sewing machine). Basically, this is a fun way to celebrate the season without spending all day indoors.

4. Dollar Store Glass Hurricanes

This is a project that always makes a splash. I think everyone loves it because it’s so insanely easy. All you need is a candlestick, some glue or tape, a glass vase and some decorative ornament/plastic balls. I think these look best on a dining room table or atop a mantle. One trip to the Dollar Store and you’re set for the holidays.

3. Printable Nativity Advent Chain

I like this project because it’s both entertaining for kids and educational. Cut out each of the figures and glue them to the chain. This is a family-friendly craft idea that’s perfect for the Christmas season.

2. Christmas Table Runner

Christmas decor doesn’t have to be red and green. If you like whimsical prints and offbeat designs, you’ll absolutely adore this pattern. I recently created a newsletter that featured a wide range of crafts for your Christmas table. I think this would serve as a great decorative piece during the holiday season. It’s also perfect for a party! Oh and this sewing craft is deceptively simple. Check it out for yourself and see what I mean.

And our most popular project from June is…

1. Simple Ruffled Wreath

Apparently, our readers are wild for ruffles! Wreaths are great because they can be hung up at any time. It doesn’t scream Christmas, which I think is a good thing. It’s truly understated and extremely fun to make. In this case, simple and easy doesn’t mean juvenile or ugly.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Dollar Store Frames
  • Edible Snow Globe Place Settings
  • Doily Table Runner

14 Ideas for the Thanksgiving Table

November 1, 2009 by FaveCrafts

Use these craft ideas to decorate your Thanksgiving table.

Burlap

  1. Pick up simple burlap from the garden center (the burlap with the looser weave looks better) and use it to create a table runner, place mats, or a table cloth. The edges can be kept a little frayed for a rustic look great for autumn gathering.
  2. Place burlap underneath your Thanksgiving rolls in the serving dish or bowl, letting a little come up at the sides.

Leaves

  1. For a nice table decoration, fill vases or, better yet, tall glassware with colorful leaves of the season. Dry the leaves between sheets of paper towel before using.
  2. Take simple, clear votives and decoupage colorful leaves to the outside with your preferred adhesive (mod podge would work great), or for an easier shortcut, just tie them on with a bit of twine.

Pumpkins and Gourds

  1. Punch a hole in small pumpkins to serve as candleholders for your table.
  2. Turn a craft gourd and foam filled into a fun Thanksgiving turkey with colorful foam feathers. This turkey makes for a fun craft for kids.
  3. Cut off the top of a bigger pumpkin to serve as a vase for an autumn bouquet.
  4. Paint a band of strong adhesive around the middle of a pumpkin (or candle) or use double-sided tape. Roll the pumpkin in an assortment of dried beans or lentils for a decorative, autumn look.
  5. Instead of place cards, write the names of dinner guests on tiny pumpkins or gourds.
  6. You can also crochet some squash and gourds with this free crochet pattern.

Seeds, Beans and Lentils

  1. You can also use those lentils as a kind of candle-holder. Fill a shallow bowl with different colored lentils, and nestle short candles into the lentils.
  2. Take foam balls and coat with glue. Roll in the seeds, beans, or lentils. For different ideas for these “natural ornaments,” see this project. You can display in a shallow bowl on the table instead of hanging.

Autumn Fruit

  1. Pomegranates and cranberries are wonderful additions to a fall spread. Fill a tall, clear vase with fresh cranberries. You can add branches, bark, or cinnamon sticks.
  2. Fill a fewer shorter vases only with cranberries and water, and float candles on top.

Don’t forget to check out the Thanksgiving Turkey Time Aprons project.
