9 Succulent Crafts You Can’t Kill

July 11, 2016 by FaveCrafts

I know that succulents are supposed to be the easiest plant to keep alive. I have read over and over again that these low-water, low-maintenance, admittedly very cute plants are impossible to kill. This is supposed to be the case, but you know what? I have yet to meet a succulent I did not kill. My thumbs about as black as they come or maybe my apartment is a dead zone.  Whatever the reality is, the succulent struggle is real. This is why I have put together this charming selection of succulent craft ideas that don’t actually involve real succulents. This collection of pretty printable flower and plant crafts, paper craft ideas, and more succulent craft ideas is dedicated to my fellow black thumb sufferers. You absolutely cannot kill these cuties, because they are not alive.

9 Succulent Crafts You Can't Kill

9 No-Fuss, No-Water (Okay, Fake!) Succulent Crafts

  • DIY Felt Succulent Pens – (shown) I want 15 for my desk.
  • You’re Succulent Free Printable – (shown) All you have to do is hit the print button. That’s my type of craft.
  • Free Cactus Crochet Pattern – Oh my goodness! Someone needs to crochet this ASAP.
  • Pretty Painted Cacti – I honestly love painted rock crafts.
  • Felt Succulent Summer Wreath – (shown) Such a cute way to add soft textures and colors to your home.
  • Unforgettable Fondant Succulents – I would say these are too cute to eat, but they’re atop cupcakes so….
  • Sand Art Succulent Terrariums – A kids craft that looks like trendy, adult home decor.
  • Perfect Paper Succulents – (shown) These paper succulents honestly look real. They fooled me.
  • DIY Succulent Wrist Cuff – Using fake succulents is such a great way to add green to your world.

Best DIY Hair Accessories

September 30, 2015 by FaveCrafts

DIY HairLadies, like makeup, we accumulate a ton of hair stuff. Blow dryers, curling irons (of different sizes and shapes because there is a difference between a wand and an iron), hair creme, hair mousse, anti-friz, heat protector, hair spray, bobby pins…and more bobby pins. That doesn’t even cover the hair accessories! I used to rock a pixie cut. In order to “dress it up,” I would put flower barrettes or sparkly clips in my hair. It was super adorable, a lot of times they were difficult to find without going into the kids’ section at the store. Kids get to have all the fun, right? Wrong! Why should you let retail dictate what you get to wear? You should be making your own clips. And you should also be making these easy hair accessories for you and your child. They will save you money and you can cater to your taste.

Personally, I’ve always adored cute headbands. I have very thick, wavy hair that gets unruly pretty quick. These headbands are the best in the business because you get to make them yourself! My favorite is the upcycled scarf because I have so many scarves that I would hate to get rid of, but can’t wear anymore. In the list below, there is a mixture of both kid and adult craft tutorials. I encourage you to check out both kinds because you never know when inspiration will strike! You can adapt each to your own style and preference.

Featured Hair Pieces

Frozen Elsa HatOkay, so this isn’t quite a hair accessory, it’s a straight up hat, but it is too cute to pass. This Frozen Elsa hat will be a great gift to make for your child who adores the Disney movie. She will love the soft yarn and the long braid that would go perfectly with an Elsa costume. Check out these other Frozen inspired costumes for more cool fun!

Crochet Hair Band

I am constantly on the go. That’s why I love this easy braided headband. It pulls back all the fly-away-hairs and it is adjustable as it gets stretched. These are a 10-minute craft, so you can make one of these DIY headbands in every color.

Beach Pebble BarretteAnd then there’s some days where you want to put your hair up, but, you know, society dictates you look put-together at work (who makes these rules), and you want to go half-up, half-down. This barrette craft is a great homemade hair accessory for when you are looking for a statement piece without too much effort.

How to: Make One Hour Valentine Cards with Yarn

February 4, 2011 by FaveCrafts

Are you participating in the FaveCrafts Valentine’s Day swap?  I know I am!  I absolutely love making homemade Valentine’s Day cards.  Since we still have until February 11 to make and mail our cards, I thought I would provide some inspiration.  Have you ever made cards using leftover paper and yarn?  Making homemade cards is a great way to clear out that ever-growing yarn and paper stash.  I know I’m not the only one who is prone to hoarding. 😀

Now on with the project!  Here’s a simple card that can be made in an hour or less!  Feel free to get the kids involved – there’s nothing like making cards for people you care about, with other people you care about!

Materials:

  • 1 glue stick or your favorite kind of liquid stitch glue
  • leftover yarn scraps
  • card stock, any color or design of choice
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • paper punch

Instructions:

  1. Choose the main paper for your card.  I decided to use some pink-and-red glittery paper from Hobby Lobby for mine.  The camera doesn’t do it justice!  Now, bend your card in half.
  2. Once you’re happy with your paper choice, cut out a simple heart template.  I used one from online, but you can easily trace and cut your own by hand.
  3. Trace your heart template over some decorative paper that complements the main part of the card and cut it out.  glue your heart shape directly in the middle of the card so it looks like this:
  4. Grab your hole punch and punch a few holes along the outside of the heart shape.  It should look something like this:
  5. Take about a 7 -inch piece of yarn and weave it in and out of the holes.  Take an extra 3-inch piece and  tie a small bow.  Glue or tie this bow to the top of the heart like this:

And there you have it!  An easy and cute card for Valentine’s Day! What kinds of cards are you planning on making?
