FaveCrafts 365 Where Are Those Hexagon Boxes???

During my January 11, 2011 FaveCrafts 365 video report I threw out a challenge! I showed a cute plain paper hexagon box and asked for ideas to create something unique. Ask Maria “How To Choose A Cutting System?”

I’m thinking of buying a cutting system since I really like the die cuts I see at my local craft store, however there are so many different brands that I’m not sure which system to buy. Any suggestions?

Bea, WA

I made this cute little purse on a die cutting machine from Sizzix. It opens!

Wow Bea, great minds must think alike as I too have been checking out all the wonderful cutting systems available. To select such a system is to really make an investment in your crafting so you need to think about how you are going to use the machine and its accessories. I want to get a system because I love making cards, envelopes, boxes, and other cut/fold/make paper keepsakes thus I was checking out what dies are available to make such things.

Some of the machines are more versatile using any brand of die, while others can be limiting in that area. I have fibromyalgia so I really want a system that had an electric option since cranking is often painful for me. Space might be an issue and there are systems that are digital rather than die, which means less storage space for the entire system. I am also reading different reviews online and asking my social media friends why they like the systems they own.

Bottom line, however, at least for me is that I’m able to really understand how the system works. Does a local retailer carry the model I like? Are there local classes I can take? Does the manufacturer offer good customer service and lots of ideas to motivate me? Any time we invest in machines, tools, even basic supplies it’s nice to know we can get help and stay motivated. There is no way around it, this kind of investment takes homework!
