Get a Head Start on those Crochet Christmas Gifts!

July 2, 2013 by AllFreeChristmasCrafts Leave a Comment

I know what you’re thinking: “Today is July 2nd. Why is there a crochet Christmas gifts post here from AllFreeChristmasCrafts?

Well, I’ll give you an answer . . . in the form of a scenario.

It’s the day after Thanksgiving. Black Friday. You shopped from midnight to noon, only stopping to eat, and now you’re home. You’re about to take a nice, long nap. As you snuggle into bed under one of your many crocheted afghans, you are contemplating all of your great steals. You’ve crossed several people off your Christmas list with your big electronic purchases, like that TV for your son or the digital camera for your brother. You probably bought enough toys for your youngest son, and you hit DSW hard when you picked out shoes for each of your sisters. But you didn’t finish shopping for everyone . . . not even in the twelve hours you were out this morning. You forgot that you promised to crochet your neighbor a Christmas Poinsettia Scarf. No big deal; it’ll take less than a day to make one of those crochet Christmas gifts. But what about the Crocheted Holiday Hats? Your sister-in-law begged you to make four of them for your nephews. And you absolutely cannot forget the Huggable Penguin for your youngest daughter. She’s been asking for it every day since last Christmas.

You had planned to make a couple of those Christmas Crochet Tote Bags for your friends at the office. The Christmas mantle could use an update, and you’d wanted to try out this pattern for the Vintage Granny Square Christmas Stocking ever since you stumbled upon it six months ago. And afghans. You have to crochet so many afghans.

Fortunately, you are not going to be a part of that nightmarish scenario, because we at AllFreeChristmasCrafts.com are here to provide you with great crochet Christmas patterns that you can get started on now!

FaveCrafts Plans Their Dream Tree

November 16, 2012 by FaveCraftsBlog Leave a Comment

The team here at FaveCrafts Worldwide Headquarters was sent on a mission this week to create the ultimate holiday tree. The fine people at Michaels have invited us to participate in this year’s Dream Tree Challenge and we are up for it. We thought that it would make sense to make a tree in our favorite FaveCrafts colors, so that was our inspiration.

We scoured the Michaels store for everything in our signature colors and boy did they have a selection. Next up is the DIY part of this challenge, we are making all our own ornaments. Since we thought the FaveCrafts colors were so appealing for the holidays, we pulled together a collection of holiday ideas in these fun colors you may enjoy.

Get Hooked on Christmas Crochet Patterns

November 3, 2012 by FaveCrafts 2 Comments

Christmas is getting closer and closer, and I know I’m on the hunt for great projects to make for my family and friends.  Since I love to crochet, I thought I would share some easy Christmas crochet patterns that are quick and fun to make.  Most of these patterns use only 1-3 balls of yarn, so they’re economically friendly and great for beginners.  From afghans to gift card holders, these Christmas crochet patterns are perfect to have on hand for those blistery fall evenings!

Do you have visions of candy canes dancing in your head?  This Crocheted Candy Cane Wreath is a fun and easy project that anyone could make.  Display this whimsical wreath indoors or out.  This “sweet” pattern is great for amigurumi fans and would be a great project for a beginner crocheter who’s looking for a bit of a challenge.  You could even add a simple “Merry Christmas” sign to this wreath to make it more festive.

Top off your Christmas tree with this adorable Crochet Angel Tree Topper.  This elegant and traditional Christmas crochet pattern also makes a great gift for a family member or friend.  Even if you have a tree topper already, you could make this angel as a centerpiece for your table or mantel.

Afghans and throws are perfect for adding a touch of color and decor to your living room or bedroom.  They’re also great projects for beginning crocheters and they make great gifts for any occasion.  This Christmas Striped Throw, for example, is the perfect accessory for your living room.  Beaming with the colors of the season, this crocheted afghan pattern also makes a great gift for a white elephant gift exchange.  You could even use this pattern to create an every day afghan!  Mix and match your favorite yarn colors to create an afghan that goes perfectly with your living room or bedroom.

Looking for a quick and easy Christmas crochet pattern?  This Crocheted Gift Card Holder is an easy and fun project to make…and is a great way to wrap up a simple gift card!  Perfect for kids and teens alike, this pattern is frilly and fun…and guaranteed to be a success!  And the fun doesn’t have to stop at gift cards!  These cute gift card holders are also great for giving jewelry, cash, accessories, snacks, and so much more!  Make a whole bunch so you always have one or two on hand when you need them.

One of the things I look for in my Christmas crochet patterns is versatility.  I want a pattern that I can use throughout the winter, year after year.  That’s why I love this Crocheted Snowflake Table Runner.  I can have this fun decoration out from December through February without any problem…plus this is a great pattern for making snowflakes!  Simply make one snowflake and you have a beautiful ornament or garland in no time!

Are you crocheting something for Christmas?  What are some of your favorite Christmas crochet patterns?

Meet and Make: Julie Huston

December 16, 2011 by AllFreeCrochet 4 Comments

This week’s featured Meet and Make designer is Julie Huston. Julie picked up a crochet magazine in the mid 1990’s from a thrift store and taught herself how to crochet from the instructions in the magazine. A new hobby was born and she has not looked back; she has been “hooked” ever since. Julie has many free crochet patterns on our site that we just love so much!

What to know more? Keep reading!

10 Fun Facts about Julie:

2. I served 21 years in the Air Force working on electronics.
3. I like to bake.
4. I fixed a couple broken iTouches.
5. I lived in 5 different countries( not including the United States).
6. I don’t like to do housework.
7. I like to watch Reality Shows.

9. I sing in the church choir.
10. I grew up in Kaukauna, WI

Here is Julie’s Featured Project:

Crocheted Wreath Ornament

Materials:

  • Green worsted weight yarn
  • Size F crochet hook
  • Pipe cleaner or 5-6 inch ring

Instructions:

If using a pipe cleaner, form to make a ring.

Row 1: sc around the ring until it is completely covered, exact number isn’t that inportant, just as long as the ring is cover

Row 2 and 3: Working in continuous rounds, 3 sc in each sc around. Make sure you marked the beginning of the round.

Row 4, *ch 3, sc in the next stitch* repeat around.Slip stitch in the next stitch. You can finish it off here.

Or..

I added a chain loop of about 50 chains, unfortunately I do not remember exactly how many I did. I made the loop long enough to fit around a door knob.

Embellish the wreath as you see fit.

AFC Facebook Photo Winner

November 30, 2010 by AllFreeCrochet 1 Comment

A few weeks ago we had mentioned in the Hooked on Crochet newsletter as well as the AllFreeCrochet Facebook fan page about a simple contest. All we asked you to do was post pictures of your Christmas patterns on the photo tab. In doing so, we would pick a winner who had a beautiful detailed pattern.

The winner was chosen today! Corinne Munger was the lucky winner who posted photos of the Poinsettia Scarf, just beautiful. She has won two skeins of yarn from Red Heart Yarn, Boutique Changes. It’s six yarns in one, a ruby red color and an aquamarine. Corinne can make a whole scarf with just this one ball of yarn, so essentially she has two Christmas gifts ready to go.

Congratulations Corinne and thanks Red Heart for supplying this yarn!

This Crochet Holly Stocking is a great holiday pattern  you can put together in no time. And don’t forget about the crochet wreaths eBook.
