Happy Birthday to You! Card Make n’ Take with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L

December 6, 2017 by FaveCrafts 3 Comments

Here at Prime Publishing, we love it when we get to try new projects with some of the brands we work with! Last week, our friends from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L came by our Northbrook, IL office to teach us how to make a darling birthday card.

Happy Birthday to You Photo Corners Card

Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L likes to promote “wearing adhesive on the outside”, which is showcased beautifully in this birthday card with the photo corners! Several of our editors signed up to make this fun card.

Editors hard at work putting together their cards!

Media Director Beth Pingry showed us how to use their E-Z Runner® Grand to adhere the layers of paper. We also used 3D foam adhesive between some layers to give the card more dimension.

Did you know it’s easier to place all the photo corners on the card before pressing it down? For some reason I thought positioning the paper first would be better, but not so! It’s much easier to get the photo corners in place before pressing it down.

Margie and Beth trimmed the photo corners down ahead of time for us, which made them easier to work with! They come packaged on a larger sheet.

Aren’t those foil shapes darling? Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L sells foil that works with their adhesive shapes for an easy and pretty embellishment.

Here’s what some of our editors had to say:

“I was amazed how quick and easy the project was! When I saw what we would be making, I thought it looked so beautiful and complex that it would take at least an hour – but the whole project only took 30 minutes! The photo corners are so fun to work with, and I love the vintage touch that they gave to the final card.”- Chelsea Scarnegie, AllFreeHolidayCrafts.com Editor

“I’ve done a decent amount of scrapbooking, and these were my favorite photo corners. I loved how the back portion extended out an extra long distance, providing more stability for the paper. And the ability to make cards that were three-dimensional was so much fun—it was like something out of the pretty card section at a store.” – Jessica Thelander, 103 Recipe Cookbooks Editor

“I really enjoyed using the products from Scrapbook Adhesives to create a beautiful birthday card. Specifically, the photo corners we used made the design pop and provided a fun retro vibe. I also loved using different layering techniques and adhesives to add dimension to the card. I haven’t decided who will be the lucky recipient of the card, but I’m sure he or she will be very impressed!” – Kathryn Abrams, AllFreeKnitting.com Editor

“I really enjoyed how easy making this particular card was! You could easily make a lot for say, Christmas, in no time at all. I thought the creative possibilities with the photo corners (especially when they showed us the other colors they came in) were amazing!” – Jamie Garcia, RecipeLion.com Editor

“I really liked the card that we made. It was easy to construct, and the finished product was lovely. I was also impressed by how many different ways you can use the photo corners. I never would have guessed how versatile they are!” – Kristin Anderson, TheWineBuyingGuide.com Editor

“I really enjoyed the make and take with 3L! The photo corners were easy to use and added a lot of character. I especially liked the foil accent – it was so simple but added sparkle without creating a mess like glitter sometimes does. I’m going to give this card to my mom for her birthday!” Natalie Taylor, AllFreeCasseroleRecipes.com Editor

Gift Guide: 26 Quick Gift Ideas for Kids to Make

November 1, 2013 by AllFreeKidsCrafts 1 Comment

WIU No-Sew Fleece BlanketThroughout this week, I embarked on a crafting adventure  that continued daily the instant I returned from work. It began as a mere idea on Monday, and by Friday it had transformed into the finished product. My friend is going to be a freshman at Western Illinois University, and I decided to make her a no-sew fleece tie blanket using WIU’s school colors, purple and gold. It’s an easy process that didn’t take long at all, so I was finished by Wednesday, but I felt that something was missing. That’s when I came up the idea to cut out a ‘W’ in purple felt and sew it on with a fancy applique stitch. That’s how I turned a simple, new-sew blanket into a sewing craft. Go figure! If you’re interested in making a blanket like this one and want to learn how, my craft is based on the No Sew Fleece Blanket from AllFreeKidsCrafts.com.

Crafts for Kids: How to Say Happy Birthday

June 3, 2013 by AllFreeKidsCrafts Leave a Comment

Birthday Hat BonanzaAs you get older, birthdays seem to get less and less exciting. So, in honor of my what-will-be-an-almost nonexistent birthday on Wednesday, I will reminisce on the days of yore when birthdays were thrilling. How To: Birthday Reminder Book

December 5, 2012 by FaveCrafts 5 Comments

I am the first to admit that I am not the best at getting out birthday cards on time, let alone getting them out at all. As a person who not only owns the supplies necessary to make handmade cards but also makes plenty of cards all the time just for fun, there really is no excuse except that I forget.

One of my favorite crafts to make is something that helps me in my daily life. So I made up a little reminder book to track all these birth dates in order to get a little more organized. This is a quick and simple craft tutorial that is the basics for making a little book. It is also a great project for recycling those cardboard or cereal boxes.

Birthday Reminder Book Tutorial

Materials:

  • Chipboard
  • Patterned Paper and/or Cardstock
  • Adhesive
  • Scissors
  • Bone Folder or Scoring Tool
  • Crop-a-Dile or Hole Punch
  • Tab Punch
  • Stapler
  • Word Window Punch (optional)
  • Stamps and Ink (optional)
  • Ribbon (optional)
  • Buttons (optional)

Instructions:

1. Cut out Chipboard (you can use a cereal box, those work great too!) for the cover.
Measurements are 4″ x 10″.
Cut the paper you would like for the cover as well.
Measurements are 5.25″ x 11.25″.

2. With a glue stick or tape runner, stick your chipboard to your paper and snip the corners like so.

3. Score along the edges of the chipboard so that your paper will fold over smoothly.

4. Place double sided tape all along the four sides. You really need strong adhesive for this so that it will stay put forever.

5. Fold in all four sides. I like to do top and bottom first, then the sides.

6. Snipping the corners gives you nice mitered corners for that finished look, all nice and neat.

7. Next you will need another piece of paper to cover the center.
Measurements are 2.75″ x 8.75″. Glue in place.

8. Next, punch out a piece of paper using the tab punch.
Wrap punched tab around desired pencil or pen and hold to the side of the book.
Slip out pencil/pen and staple in place.

9. Your cover is done, you can embellish as you like. I always start out simple and then add to it later.

10. Next we need tabs for the pages so that each month is easy to flip to.
I used a word window punch and alphabet stamps for this part. You can also cut strips of paper and write out or type the months.
Hint: When using a punch, stamp the words first and then punch out.

11. Print out the inside pages from your computer on nice white cardstock, then attach the tabs with glue dots to the back of each month.
I put the pages on their side to line up the months as best I can.

12. Punch a hole with a crop-o-dile at the top right corner. It will go through the cover and all the pages in one punch!
Grab your messy ribbon jar and add some to the binding clip you’re using to hold the whole book together. Wait, you don’t have a junky ribbon jar like me? Really? Well, grab your ribbon scraps and tie them on the clip for a fun embellishment.

13. Then you’ll need to do is add your friends’ birthdays. I add the most important ones first.

14. Embellish the cover more if you like.
I added a stamped cupcake and some buttons.
Slip in your pencil and you are all set!

Do you send out handmade birthday cards? How do you stay organized when it comes to handmade gifts?

New Pattern Monday: Papercrafts Galore!

July 26, 2010 by FaveCrafts Leave a Comment

I went to the store to buy a birthday card once and couldn’t believe how much they were charging for a boring card with a generic stock photo of a birthday cake on the front and some canned “sentiments” printed inside. Five bucks for a card? That’s more than I spent on the gift! Well, not really more, but close. I’ve been making my own cards, invitations, and thank you notes since then, and you should too.

Loose Weave Card: Try weaving with paper strips for an interesting, textured card.

Matchbook Notepad: If you’re always jotting things down on the go, repurpose an old matchbook into a personalized notepad to keep in your purse.

Gift Sunday: Happy Birthday!

March 28, 2010 by FaveCrafts Leave a Comment

Today I chose to feature Happy Birthday crafts and gifts, because yes, today is my birthday!

One of the favorite small gifts I received was from a friend I wasn’t expecting to get me anything. Those are the best kind of gifts, the unexpected ones. She gave me a small assortment of aromatic soaps that might’ve come from a whole food store or soap shop. They’re the organic homemade kind, if you can picture what I’m talking about. Such a nice little gift.

My nieces both gave me handmade cards that I treasure like none other. One of my nieces made me a card with a wedding dress and “crown” for my upcoming wedding. So cute!

Here are a few birthday ideas for cards and gifts:
