I’m a bag lady! It’s not what you think. I make bags. All types of bags, and wallets, purses, clutches and pouches. I love that I can make a one off item that exactly meets my needs (or someone else’s) and is strong, durable and beautiful. If you can sew a straight line then you could be making your own wardrobe of things to carry other things in. The internet is a wonderful place for inspiration. Try looking at finished projects on Flickr. Start with an easy item like a fold over clutch. There are plenty of free tutorials that will help get you started. I write tutorials for this reason like this one. There are more tutes on my blog SewChristine. There is nothing like seeing what you have to do in pictures as well as reading the instructions. Once I know what I want to sew I am spoilt for choice when it comes to fabric. There are so many beautiful, colorful, lovely designs to choose from. Sometimes just looking at a fabric design will inspire me to make something. So what are you waiting for? Imagine giving Christmas gifts that you’ve sewn yourself. Or, having shop assistants ask you where you got your lovely purse from. Make yourself some fabric supermarket bags from thrift shop finds and do your bit for the environment. The sky is the limit when it comes to bag and purse sewing.
