National Craft Month: Julia’s Favorite Projects

March 30, 2011 by FaveCrafts 63 Comments

As experts and enthusiasts of all things crafty, FaveCrafts decided to host a special National Craft Month blog series for all of our lovely readers. Check back for a new blog post every day featuring our favorite projects, new craft videos, how-to’s from the FaveCrafts editors, and a GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS, AMAZING craft giveaway at the end of the month. That’s right–we’re giving away the biggest prize ever, a gift basket chock full of crafting goodies from our craft closet. There’s something for everyone in this gift basket.

Leave a comment below, and on any blog post labeled “National Craft Month” in the headline, and your comment will count as an entry into the giveaway. You are free to comment as often as once per blog post (for a total of 31 chances to win!). At the end of the month, we’ll pool all of the comments together and pick one lucky winner.

When I was in third grade, I did a class report on elephants. I checked out books from the library and began learning all about them. Every since then, I have been obsessed with elephants. I have elephant stuffed animals, elephant magnets on my fridge and multiple elephant necklaces. When I go to the zoo in my hometown, I can’t leave without a visit to see my favorite elephant, Raja.

When I found this project on AllFreeKnitting, I went crazy. Not only does it feature my all-time favorite animal, it is blue and orange (Go Illini!) This would be a great gift for a child or could serve as decoration on your desk. Either way, Flo this Elephant is my absolute favorite project. Try not to let out a big “Awwwww” when you look at the picture below.

What’s your favorite animal? Have you ever incorporated them into your projects? What did you make?

I love elephants and owls. I haven’t done anything with them in my crafting yet, but will have to try incorporating them soon. I do have some cute earrings that my dd made for me of owls that are made with Shrinky Dinks … they are so cool!

My 7 year old loves & collects elephants, even wore a homemade elephant costume one year for Halloween (I’m thinking age 3, maybe). I might just have to learn to knit so I can make this for him, or find someone who does know how to knit to make it

When I first saw this elephant I loved it too! I haven’t attempted to make it yet, but I have made a multicolor Caterpillar that was fun to do!

Definitely owls: did a woodburned panel of an owl on a branch, made some owl pendant earrings and I think once I made an owl out of macaroni noodles, when I was 6.

That is so cute! I prefer monkeys but I haven’t incorporated any as of yet. I prefer crochet to knit and I just found a blanket with monkeys that I am going to attempt to make. I have also found many sock monkeys, but truly they are not my favorite form of monkey…I may have to make one and see if I can be swayed by it!

Cats are my favorite! Haven’t included them in any of my crafts unless you count the added addition of cat hair to any project I have done. lol It is really hard not to get cat hair in everything I do when they are right beside me every time I am doing my crafts, it makes for quite a show at times, especially when I try to crochet and they think its play time with the yarn. HILAROUS!!!

need this in a crochet and don’t know how to translate into crochet pattern. the question was have I incorporated my favorite animal into a craft-my favorite animals are horses and tigers and I have put them both into a quilt pattern.

  41. Frances says

Hmmmm I really couldn’t tell you what’s my favourite animal as I love all animals. So far I’ve made a couple of hooked wall hangings depicting a sheepdog, and a racoon. I did an owl string art wall hanging. I did a fabric painting of a horse drawn buggy. I’ve made coats and toys for my various pets. I made several “bed octopuses” over the years. Geez, I don’t know what other projects I did incorporating animals. Oh yeah, come to think of it, I did wood burnings of ducks, moose, and deer too. Probably a few other things I can’t think of at the moment now too. But yeah, I love animals and use their likenesses for lots of projects.
