As the editor for AllFreeCrochet.com I know that crochet patterns can be intimidating at times. I for one still consider myself a beginner. When I look at a pattern that has unfamiliar stitches listed, I get really scared. I then have to tell myself to take it one step at a time and hello, there’s a wonderful world full of videos to teach me! When I start a new project it can take me quite some time to figure it out, but once I do, it’s the most satisfying feeling in the world.
Here are some supplies to get you through it:
- Crochet Hook
- Yarn (whatever the pattern calls for)
- Stitch Holder
Keep in mind, every pattern calls for different materials. Most patterns will tell you what size hook is required and what kind of yarn you will need. There are an array of yarn weights from lightweight, to bulky to worsted weight which is your most commonly used type of yarn.

I can knit a little, but crochet has always intimidated me. Maybe I’ll try again.
I am going to try this. It may take some time but I will succeed:)
I have been crocheting for years but I still read crochet learning books and video to see if I can pick up new tips on how to improve my skils.
I will give this a try, I have had a hard time learning to crochet…
ok I can do the chain stitch now what???
I like to crochet but knitting scares me!! I saw a previous posters remark about crochet scaring her…lol. I don’t know the stitches that I hook, I just make things off the top of my head and sometimes they work.
Thanks for all the ideas.
