How to Knit the Daisy Stitch

As much as I love the seed stitch, my absolute favorite stitch has to be the gorgeous daisy stitch.  Don’t you love these beautiful Daisy Stitch Handwarmers from the Purl Bee above?  I’m also still swooning over this Autumn Leaves Tee pattern – too cute.

While the daisy stitch takes some time to master (at least it did for me) the result is adorable star-shaped flowers all over your knit fabric.  This stitch is perfect for adding visual interest to simple knit projects and also looks great in large sections, like on a sweater or a cozy afghan.

If you’ve never tried the daisy stitch before and don’t know how it’s done, here is the basic pattern:

Rows 1 and 3 (RS): Knit
Row 2: k1 *p3 tog and keep stitches on the needle, yo (wrapping yarn completely around needle), p same 3 together again and drop them, k1; rep from *
Row 4: k1, p1, k1 *p3 tog and keep them on the needle, yo (wrapping yarn completely around needle), p same 3 together again and drop them, k1; rep from *, end p1, k1

Having trouble?  Here is a great video tutorial that shows how to master the daisy stitch:
