The World is full of so much unwanted waste. We throw away everything from fridges to stereos, t-shirts to towels, and yet so much of it can be reused, recycled, or turned into something fun with just a little imagination.
Well here’s a fun way you can encourage your kids to reuse any old, unwanted flip flops next time you’re thinking of putting them in the bin. Help them turn the flip flops into a patchwork of fun art and while away an afternoon in arts and crafts happiness. Here’s how:
Fun flip flops
Take a pair of unwanted flip flops, wash thoroughly and leave to dry.
Next up cover your table in a protective cloth and place some pots of paint, brushes and a water bowl on it. If you have some beads, glitter, coloring pens, badges, clothes pegs, glossy magazines, old string, or decorative hair clips these will all come in handy as well. Feel free to recycle whatever you like.
Finally a pot of glue or a glue gun will be needed.
Now fetch your flip flops and let your imagination take over. You can color them in all the colors of the rainbow, draw a face, draw a flower, paint dots and spots, your national flag, an animal, the beach, a car, a flower, basically anything and everything you can think of.
Once you have colored them as you desire you can now start to accessorize with some fun additions. So, for example, give a painted face some hair using some old string or wool and some eyes by sticking beads in the appropriate places. Give your flower some petals with a decorative hair clip or embellish your rainbow with some gold coins at the end of it.
The idea is to let your imagination run free and come up with some fun and crazy combinations that are both stylish and colourful.
As a final touch you could write some song lyrics on a tiny scrap of paper, fold over many times and attach to the flip flop with some glue ensuring to draw something on the piece of paper facing out, for example, a closed door or house. Alternatively you could add a poem or a prayer.
Once you are done and they have all dried you can hang them up on your fence for all to see. Better still, get more friends children involved and turn the results into a bit of public art like the heart fence. These are chain link fences where a large heart outline made of string has been shaped out. You can then fill the heart shape in with flip flops and look back on a wonderful collage of art and flip flop fun!
