We’re going green! We have a new attitude about green. It’s not just a color, but a lifestyle choice. We’re into recycling, reusing, reducing, refusing, and sprinkling the hue of green all around us. You’ll see all shades of green being used as a blender or coordinating accent color.
Soft and bold pastels will be showing up as spring and summer arrive. Pastels seem to be a standard for spring, but this year we will see the pastels linger into our summer. Clothing, jewelry, outdoor decor, and accessories will be solids and combinations of pastel yellow, blue, orange, and green.
Blue will be emerging as the color of choice for cars, home decor, and fashion. Look for medium to dark blues to mingle with black and white. Neutrals will take a back sit during 2009. People want color surrounding them. Look for the use of metallics to pop colors. The color gray will also be used to bring out the brightness of the bolder hues.
For the bride this year we’ll be seeing an upscale feel to traditional colors. Gold and silver will be used as accents to white and pastels. The trend of black will continue with a refreshed white and red. Another noted trend is simplicity in design for bride’s dresses and the rest of the wedding party.
Another color taking center stage will be yellow. Yellow is the traditional blending or accent color that brings all other colors together. This year’s yellow is rather mellow with fun choices of lemon yellow, light marigold, and bold sunshine.
What colors are shining in your world? My own home decor is a blend of yellows and greens with a touch of pale ocean blue. In my closet you’ll find black, white, earthy green, rustry red, and sunset blues. Jewelry and accents are leaning towards bold and antique silvers, topaz, and aquamarine.
Keep in mind regional color trends as you plan your projects and designs. Regional trends do have a direct effect colors. For example it’s very rare to see dark colors in home decor and outdoor decor in the deep South, yet if you traveled north you’d find these colors dominate.
No matter what the trends predict make sure you color your world with hues that you enjoy and inspire you.
