My favorite Holiday tradition is going to a candlelight Christmas eve service at Church to welcome our Lord & Saviour into this world. and singing Christmas hymns in praise unto Him.
Everyone comes to my house use to eat. I fix it all. Then we open gifts and remember things from the past year. Sometimes we sing, and others we don’t. There are 6 children between us, and Christmas eve is always saved for our Christmas. There is a lot of silliness going on here.
For the past 16 years other than last year and 2 years previous, my tradition was to fix Christmas and Thanksgiving for everyone in our neighborhood holiday meals that had no family or anywhere to go.
I loved to cook and see the happiness and gratefulness of others when I shared this with them. Spending these holidays alone, especially Christmas is just a horrible way for anyone to spend the holidays. It is understandable why Christmas see’s so much depression.
Now I have no family and have lost everything I have worked for the past 35 years due to my only child becoming greedy and an addict. I lost my home and business to my husband in a divorce when he decided to become violent and pull a gun on me, after wanting me in my own house, my son insisted I move to Florida and start a new and better life; only to set me up to take what my husband did not get in the divorce.
Now I do not even have a home of my own to cook meals for those without friends and family. My friends have passed in the last six years, I now have no family left except my step-mother as I lost my father last week and my son (which I have disowned) is now awaiting his trial and prison sentence. I will never watch my two grandson’s grow up, much less ever see them again.
I know now, how grateful and thankful others felt when they were invited to my home and have a place to spend the lonely holidays. I could only seat 16 in my home, but always found a way to find more space, often feeding up to 28 people for Christmas and exchanging gifts. Those were the happy and grateful times in my life, and I will never forget them, and how good I made others feel.
It is my wish that others see this in their communities and help those in need; especially during the Christmas holiday, as it is all about giving in a greatest time of need; those with nothing, in which we seem to forget in the commercial rat race of it all.

I think this is a brilliant list! People are continuously searching for ways to save a bit of money as well as to give gifts that are more meaningful than some electronic. The gifts are creative and festive enough to catch anyone’s eye. This is certainly a visually appealing article as well as inspirational in giving those interested the motivation to go out and make the arts and crafts for themselves.

Reading this, has made me feel ashamed. I’ve always found Christmas so difficult, especially at certain times of my life, however, I have lots of family, husband, children grandchildren, who love me, and I love them, but still a dread it.
Every year I hope I shall find out why, and be able to feel differently, but so far there is no answer.
I friend did suggest something last week, when I shared with her how I always feel ill at Christmas, that it could be stress! She may well be right!
I wish all who read this a happy holiday, and I will remember the positive things, that the season brings me and mine!
I’m a 2012 widow, having been married to Ed for 59 years and we had 7 children. Ed succumbed to
gastric cancer and had 27 days to live. We had not seen most of our children that we made Christ-
mas a happy one with gifts, but also attending church as a family with my Mom, Marianna.
Today I pray a lot to survive living because the six living children of mine have abandoned me, thru
a business dream of one, we lost our home, truck, 3 lots in our third year of retirement. The next
calamity was one who told us we couldn’t live together although his Dad took a p/t job to help him
get projects done in a beautiful home. Another child thought I was crazy although this child is a
RN, been through at least 3 anger management classes I’ve been told.
When Ed passed away, our youngest male claimed his Dad told him to take care of Mama. Does
this sound real since we had not seen this one in almost 25 years. He and his wife had the movers
stop at their home 5 minutes away to remove what they wanted, and then on to my home. His wife
called my doctor and wanted him to give me a sanity test – wow – well, I did pass it 99% on questions
about Forsyth County that I’d never lived in.
Got a call 8/28/14 that the third oldest child had a minor heart attack. Called and he wanted me to
sell my new home, move in with him and take care of his recovery (I had a 4quadheartbypass in 2009)
which I did – housecleaning/washing/drying/filing clothes/mopping floors, etc. 8 months later he
got a call from either a girl friend or wife that she had a minor stroke and was moving in. Oh my God!
I’m living out of a suitcase, 2 storage unit rents to pay so where do I go??!!
Called my oldest son with the news and he agreed to come get me in Florida and took me to a cottage
he owns on a lake. All seemed well. While I was in Florida I was dx’d with lymphoma of the palette –
very unexpected so I was at the stage to receive radiation treatment. Had a difficult time trying to find
a treatment center, but finally got one in Birmingham, AL for 22 weeks. My son seemingly was not
disturbed, but in September the atmosphere started to change. His wife had walked out on him in
February, I came April 27 and he told me the whole scenario, I saw she removed everything from the
house she wanted (even the mattress on the bed).
By Memorial day in May they were starting to get back together — they put a plan in place and I bit
on it. Mom will give us 10k deposit on this cottage, $1100/mo, and we’ll give free tv/phone/grass
cutting/internet service. I was cut short for buying groceries/meds, misc. and advised them I had no
intention at age 85 buying the lake house that needs lots of attention. I only did this because they
wanted to buy a mobile home ten minutes from me and they had 2 loans to pay off totaling $10k.
The wife now fez’d up to the fact they never needed my money! Wow, then was it that I would be
babysitter for her 11 year old daughter after school because she was bored and wanted a job?
My nephew in NYS sent me some money to help me move back to my home state where I was
at until October 14, 2014. Now if he honors his Mother, he will do the right thing and return the
money so I can move on to a happy place.
