Retro Winter Wall Decor

Take a trip back in time with some simple wall decor crafts. Channel the best aspects of the season and create Retro Winter Wall Decor from Tiffany Windsor you can display in your home. Use cheesecloth and alcohol inks to add a cool vibe to your DIY decorations. Display these canvases on your wall every winter - they add a cool, relaxing touch to even the more boring space.

Retro Winter Wall Decor

  • Aleene’s Matte Decoupage
  • Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue
  • Stretched canvases (sizes and shapes of your choice)
  • Laser cut wood ornaments or flat wood lettering of your choice
  • Spray paint – Rustoleum Flat White
  • Cheesecloth
  • Scissors
  • Wax paper
  • Paint brush – 1/2″ shader (to apply cheesecloth and alcohol ink)
  • Lumiere Paint – Pearl Turquoise
  • Jacquard Alcohol Ink – Burro Brown
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Small plastic cup or bowl (for mixing alcohol ink)
  • Glitter – gold and silver mixed together (or other colors of your choice)
  • Ribbons (for hanging)
  • Optional: glittered ornament (to decorate canvas top)

  1. Glue wood shape(s) onto canvas with Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue. Let dry for several hours.
  2. Spray entire canvas and wood shape(s) with white spray paint. Let dry completely.
  3. Cut cheesecloth several inches larger than canvas (including measurement for the canvas sides too).
  4. Pour puddle of Matte Decoupage on wax paper. Dip cheesecloth into Decoupage and squeeze until entire piece is saturated.
  5. Brush Matte Decoupage onto front of canvas. Place cheesecloth over front of canvas and begin pressing into place using brush to press into crevices. Continue to work with the cheesecloth until it conforms to the shape of the wood designs. Brush Matte Decoupage on all sides of the canvas and press/glue cheesecloth in place. Cut off excess cheesecloth and smooth any edges that have lifted. Place on wax paper to dry.
  6. Squeeze small puddle of Lumiere paint onto wax paper. Use finger tip to apply paint to raised surface of wood. Let dry.
  7. Mix 10 drops of alcohol ink with approximately 1/8 cup rubbing alcohol or adjust to desired color for antiquing.
  8. Brush alcohol ink over entire canvas. If desired, use wet wipe to lift color from canvas in random pattern. Let dry.
  9. Apply glue to edge of canvas. Sprinkle with glitter. Let dry.
  10. If desired, glue ribbon hanger to back of canvas.
