Upcycled Flea Market Glass Vases

Updated October 27, 2017

Transform those dollar store vases into these stylish Upcycled Flea Market Glass Vases from Mitzi Curi, great for spring decorating.  With these pearly pastel colors, you can create a look that's perfect for spring, weddings, baby showers and more.

  • Spray paint (matte or satin) or multi-surface craft paint and paint brush (optional)
  • Sanding sponge (medium grit)
  • Assorted embellishments
  • Hot glue gun

  1. Two thin coats of spray paint worked well on these pieces:

  2. I thought I'd try some of the pearly Martha Stewart craft paints too:

  3. Here's the first bottle I painted with Martha's pearly paint in a green color.  It required two coats, and to be honest, it was much more difficult to apply than the spray paint:
  4. After the pieces are dry, take your sanding sponge and sand the piece to bring out the design:

  5. Now they are ready to embellish.

  6. Now comes my favorite part:  selecting the embellishments!  I have a humongous stash to choose from, but didn't want to overdo it.  I chose some vintage millinery flowers, cameos, and newer trim for my vases.

Wow! These are beautiful. I have never been really good at painting. However these are just too beautiful not to try these. I am hoping that because the project calls to distress the paint by sanding that will cover up the fact that I am terrible at painting.

I find these vases at every thrift store I find myself wandering through. I never pick any of them up because I never know what I can use them for and they are usually very, very cheap. Here is the perfect project to glam up some of those cheap items and make them giftable.

This is such a cute idea. I have a friend that is really into antiquing and thrift store shopping. I'll share this idea with her because these are too adorable to pass up!

What a beautiful idea! I can''t wait to try this with my scout troop. I also like the comment made about using these as candle holders...great idea! I bet we could then use them in scout ceremonies.

This is so fascinating! These bottles look so dashing! I want to try these. This can also be an elegant present during holidays or maybe a gift for your boss during his birthday. This can also be used as a candle holder.

I'm always going to the Dollar Store to see what new types of glass bud vases they have. With the bud vases costing very little, these would be nice gifts to give somebody with a flower in the vase. I'm glad I found this craft idea on this site! Can't wait to try some of them! )

I have always wanted to have an excuse to use the Martha Stewart pearly paints. Are these vases actually crafted or were they lost treasures from Gramma's attic? They are lovely! The cameo embellishment is the most beautiful. This project is the perfect springtime DIY to get my house ready for the warmer weather.

Super attractive and limitless as to uses -- and another craft that older children could do with guidance keep them coming - it is not always easy to come up with affordable ideas for them to work on

These are wonderfully creative. Who would ever think they came from the dollar store? I am thinking of a lot of uses for them too.i belong to a ladies club and these would look great on the center of each table. At the end of the meeting we could give them to winners from each table. The allowance for each piece is plenty to cover these beauties. Thank you for sharing..

Never thought of this. Always tried to find painted glass. I did not think the paint would stay on. Super cheap, super easy and so adorable.I love the different types of paints you used. Gives each vase a different look. I have so many clear vases in all sizes laying around the house and so many beads left over from making jewelry. These vases will make cute gifts and also to use at parties or weddings. Thanks for idea. Anyone use for wedding table?

I even save my candle glass after i have burned them so i can use for projects

I also save my candle glass after the candle is all used up the leftover wax is discarded. Most of the candle glass I have now is the round ones with a smooth finish. I just recently bought a candle that has glass shaped like an "apothecary" jar can't wait to do something creative with that one!

Love them! Gonna try this. Thank you for the wonderful idea.

They are all so pretty! Can't decide which color I like best!

Thanks for the great idea...I have so many glasses and vases. This will give me something to do this week.

The white one's are very nice.

Great ideas for all those bud vases.

I was just getting ready to throw out my old stash ,but will try this neat ideal

These are very pretty!

They are beautiful and perfect
