Love Mitts

By: Natalia Anderson of

Tell your valentine just how much you love them with this fun and affordable gift, sure to warm the receiver’s heart and hands.  The idea of this valentine is to present the recipient with a pair of connected gloves or mittens that when worn with arms stretched outwards, revels a special message to displays just how much you love them.

 Love Mittens

  • Mittens
  • Matching Yarn to Connect
  • Yarn Needle
  • Craft Felt
  • Hot Glue Gun/Fabric Glue
  • Cardstock and Pen for Note
  • Tissue Paper

The first thing we did to construct this craft was to cut out a couple different images from craft felt which you will apply to a pair of store bought gloves or mittens. We actually created two different styles; a set of strawberries for a more girlish pair and a pair with pirate, skull and crossbones for a boyish look.

Love Mitts

Using a hot glue gun (although you could use fabric glue), we applied our felt-art right to the top of the mittens—one image per mitten (make sure you face your gloves in opposite directions so you don’t end up with your art on the wrong side of the glove).

The next thing we wanted to do was to connect the mittens together.

Since we were making valentines for the toddler variety, my four year old stood with his arms stretched outward (like the letter T) as I measured and cut a piece of yarn to match that length (from finger to finger). We used a large needle to lace the yarn through each bottom end of the glove. We then we knotted off the yarn on the inside of each glove, cutting off any excess yarn. When my son put on the gloves at this point, the yarn stretched across his chest from wrist to wrist.

To finish up, we added a special message to each palm side of the glove. On the more girly pair, the first mitten said, “I Love You…”

and second said, “This Much!” “I Love You This Much,” when read together. The first message on our piraty gloves said, “You’re Worth More in Gold…” while the second glove said, “Than Me Scurvy Arms Can Stretch.” So when read together, “Your Worth More in Gold Than Me Scurvy Arms Can Stretch.”

The last thing we did was wrap our gift in tissue paper and yarn tie a simple tag to the top.

If this Valentines Goody is going to a child, the yarn could stay attached to the gloves and be used to string through the inside of a coat or light weight jacket to stop a runaway mitt dead in its tracks!

Otherwise the yarn can be snipped off.

And there you have it, LOVE MITTS!
