Materials List

  • A T-shirt you want to redesign
  • Locking zippers
  • A sewing machine
  • Straight pins

Instructions

  1. First, play around with the placement of the zippers until you find a look you like. For this tutorial, we'll use just one zipper and add a lapel zipper.

  2. Pin it in place. In this example, pin just outside the collar and downward, towards the underarm.

  3. Using the zipper foot on your sewing machine, sew it in place.

  4. Cut the fabric underneath the zipper teeth.

  5. You're done! A great way to accessorize T-shirts by adding zippers to update your look.

Exposed zippers are all the rage right now. If you don't have an item of clothing that has one of these or maybe you're thinking that you can't wait until you make one on your own then this is the place to be. This is the easiest zipper tutorial because it's fully for aesthetic purposes and not functional.
