Denim Drawstring Bag

Refashion your old, ill-fitting jeans with this Denim Drawstring Bag. This free sewing pattern from Debbie Madson is perfect for beginners.

Denim Drawstring Bag
 

Materials:

  • Old pair of jeans
  • String
  • Safety Pin

Instructions:

  1. Cut out the pant leg from the knee down, or as long as you'd like, of an old pair of blue jeans.

  2. Turn right sides together and sew the bottom leg together. Turn the top edge down 1 inch and sew along bottom edge. Leave 1 inch opening for your casing. (see this drawstring bag project for help)
     
  3. Attach a safety pin to a long piece of cording. Insert your cording and push through the other end. Tie a knot at the end.

I think I will take my name off your list because I really don't want the political information when I am looking for ideas for my classroom. If you are taking money form them you don't need me

I did something like this years ago, but put elastic at top and bottom. Use it to hold plastic bags

I like this idea but I wouldn't turn the jeans inside-out for the seam at the hem. I'd stitch the leg shut following over the existing top-stitching. I'd also repurpose at least one of the hip pockets so there's a place to put things you need quick access to on the outside and stitch one to the inside for quick access items that you want to carry more securely.

Oh my gosh, this is great! When my son started school this year( freshman),he began with a nylon sting tied book bag, that did not last long at all. I can't wait to make him one like this, and out of his jeans! LOL, Thanks so much! :)
