Eco-Friendly, Economical Christmas Gift Wrapping Ideas

There's definitely something satisfying about being able to create recycled crafts for gift wrapping ideas. Some of the most spectucularly decorated gift wrapping displays can come from simple items like newspaper or fabric scraps. Learn how to make this a thrifty yet fabulous Christmas with these fun ideas to get you started.

  1. Fabric crafts can double as packaging that the recipient can keep. You can use a festive dish towel or a handmade knit scarf and wrap your main gift with it as you would with normal wrapping paper. This saves money on ordinary wrapping paper while you sneak in an extra, fun gift as the packaging. It's also a green wrapping techinique because it helps you avoid throwing away paper.

  2. For a recyled craft idea that helps you be eco-friendly and thrifty this year, a tried-and-true way to wrap is by using newspapers as wrapping paper. This is a suprisingly fun way to wrap up your DIY Christmas gifts, and there are endless possibilities to make it even more exciting. You could try using the movie section of the paper for a movie-themed gift, or the food critic section for a culinary-related gift. Another great standby is using the Sunday comics, especially for kids' presents.

  3. Paper grocery bags can make a wonderful Christmas wrapping idea that are also better for your budget and the environment. To use a brown paper bag for your Christmas wrapping endeavors, simply cut the bag along its creases on one side and on the bottom, so you're left with one long, continuous sheet of paper. Use this sheet as you would normal wrapping paper, and feel free to add fun bows to complement the brown paper. This Brown Paper Packaging Tied Up with String craft is a great example of this sort of Christmas craft idea.

  4. Another way to use brown paper grocery bags for gift wrapping ideas is to create your own design using stamps. You can have a load of fun using a stamp of your choice and placing it in rows on the paper. When you're all through, you've got a lovely pattern on your hands that's unique and merry. This Hand-Painted DIY Gift Wrap is one of many options for this type of Christmas craft.

These are really great budget-friendly wrapping lessons. My Aunt taught me the trick of using tea towels to wrap shower and housewarming gifts. It is a love little "bonus present" and it saves on waste going to the landfill. It is always nice to be conscious of the items we are using to wrap. The one with the little buttons is absolutely precious. I bet my nephews would love gluing those on for decoration!

Well Christmas is already past but valentines day is coming up and we still need to be economic and eco friendly. Here's another way to use mason jars and brown grocery shopping bags...decorated with tonnes of glitter and some ribbon or lace and they look fancy and cute just like a store bought one. The bags come in different sizes so they fit all your needs. I'm never buying a box or wrapping paper after reading this.

These are some really interesting ideas for gift wrapping. The decorated tins are so pretty and really do make use of something you'd just throw away. I had a friend who gave their daughter a car for her birthday - they wrapped it in bed sheets with a big bow on the top. It looked fantastic.
