Girls' Flowered Candlesticks and Boxes

Acrylic paints make this craft everything it is. The flowers on each piece make it a perfect thing for little girls. They can keep some of their belongings in the box and have the candlesticks as a decoration or for actual use. Just be sure a parent is around. Materials:

  • Crafter's Acrylic
    • DCA70 - Passionate Pink
    • DCA97 - Bright Orange
    • DCA47 - Black
    • DCA49 - Bright Yellow
    • DCA51 - Yellow Cornmeal
    • DCA99 - Fun Fuchsia
    • DCA103 - Citrus Green
  • Triple Thick Gloss Glaze
  • Americana Brushes
    • DBL1580-B - Script Liner #10/0
    • DBF2575-B - Flat 3/4"
  • Two wood candlesticks (varied heights optional)
  • Small papier mache box
  • Wooden box with hinged top
  • Water container
  • Paper towels
  • Palette or foam plate
  • Tracing and transfer paper
  • Fine grit sandpaper
  • Tack cloth

 

Steps:

PREPARATION:

 

  1. Sand wood pieces lightly. Wipe with tack cloth.
     
  2. Refer to diagram for placement of stencils.
     
  3. Adjust patterns to fit boxes.

 

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS:

 

Candlesticks-From top to bottom, paint sections as follows:

Tall Candlestick:

 

  1. Fun Fuchsia, Bright Orange, Yellow Cornmeal, Passionate Pink, Bright Orange, Yellow Cornmeal, Fun Fuchsia, and Citrus Green.
     
  2. Use liner brush to paint rings and swirls. Let dry.

Short Candlestick:

 

  1. Bright Orange, Yellow Cornmeal, Citrus Green, Fun Fuchsia, Citrus Green, Yellow Cornmeal, Bright Orange, and Passionate Pink.
     
  2. Use liner brush to paint rings and swirls. Let dry.

Scallop-Edged Box:

 

  1. Paint box Yellow Cornmeal and lid Bright Orange using 3/4" flat brush. Let dry.
     
  2. Trace and transfer patterns.
     
  3. Paint flowers using Passionate Pink, Fun Fuchsia, and Yellow Cornmeal. Fill centers using Bright Yellow and Citrus Green. Let dry.
     
  4. Use liner brush and Black to outline flowers and paint swirls on lid and box.

Wood Box:
 

  1. Paint box Fun Fuchsia using 3/4" flat brush. Let dry.
     
  2. Paint flowers using Bright Orange, Passionate Pink, and Yellow Cornmeal. Paint centers Bright Yellow and Citrus Green. Let dry.
     
  3. Outline flowers and paint swirls using Black and liner brush. Let dry.

 

Seal all pieces by spraying with several light coats of Triple Thick Gloss Glaze Spray. Let dry completely between coats.
