Hand Printed Apron

(1 Votes)

Have some fun on Mother's day and let the kids make this Plaid craft. Put paint all over the kids hands and let them make hand prints on an apron. They can then write their names and ages so mom will always remember.

  • 50170 - Essentials™ Spouncers™ Set
  • FolkArt Dimensional Glitter Paint in assorted colors
  • FolkArt Fabric Paint in desired colors
  • Apron (ironed without starch)
  • Styrofoam plates
  • Paper Towels
  • Water Basin
  • Children

  1. Lay apron on hard flat surface such as countertop or table. Squeeze quarter size puddle of Fabric Paint onto Styrofoam plate – have sponge brush handy.
  2. Start with oldest child so younger ones will “see” what you are doing and will not be afraid. They will “want” to have their turn after seeing the fun!
  3. Have child hold hand outstretched with palm up.
  4. Hold onto child’s wrist with one hand and with the other, pat paint onto hand using Spongebrush or Spouncer until palm is completely covered. Place brush back in paint and set plate aside. Say “let ME place your hand down and pick it back up.” Place painted palm onto apron where desired, then press each finger down individually with your fingers. Press down on back of child’s hand to complete the handprint. Lift hand straight up to avoid smear.
  5. Reload the palm with fresh paint and position hand for next print. Repeat process until you have “hand-print flower” completed, then help child to the sink, still holding onto the wrist of the painted hand. Squirt soap onto the painted hand and massage under running water until completely cleaned off.
  6. Repeat with each child. Add green handprints for “leaves” if desired. Let dry.
  7. Using the Dimensional Glitter Paint in desired colors, write the child’s name in the center of the flower made with their hand.

Add words: "Flowers for Mom 2008" for a priceless keepsake.

Note: For added protection you can paint several coats of Fabric Mod Podge over entire top of apron after paints have cured at least 72 hours. Let thoroughly dry between coats. This will allow apron to be wiped off instead of laundering.

Laundering: Handmade = handwash, or use gentle cycle of washing machine with mild detergent in cold water and lay flat to dry.
