Childhood Memories Block Tower

Hosting a baby shower and need a quick centerpiece idea? Redecorating your child's room, but on a limited budget? Here's a cute idea for any kid-centered occasion.

Materials:

  • STYROFOAM Brand Foam:
    • Cone, 12" x 4"
    • Disc, 12" x 1"
  • Wooden alphabet blocks, one set
  • Miniature toys (animals, train, packages, jacks, doll house accessories, etc.)
  • Green acrylic paint
  • Felt or fleece scraps, assorted colors
  • Red ribbon: satin, 3/8" x 1/3 yd.; velvet, 1" x 1 yd.
  • Gold star buttons, 1/2", eight
  • Ruler
  • Medium flat paintbrush
  • Disposable palette
  • Water basin
  • Paper towels
  • Scissors
  • Low-temp glue gun and glue sticks
  • Thick, white craft glue

Instructions:

  1. Use glue gun to glue foam cone base to center of foam disc. Paint foam green; let dry.

  2. Glue velvet ribbon around edge of disc. Glue star buttons evenly spaced to ribbon. Let dry.

  3. Stack blocks evenly around cone, experimenting with placement before gluing. Leave spaces between blocks large enough to fit toys, alternating openings by row. When pleased with arrangement, hot glue each block to cone and surrounding blocks.

  4. Experiment with toy placement in openings and around base of cone. When pleased with arrangement, hot glue toys to blocks and disc. Glue tall toy to tip of cone. Tie satin ribbon into bow around toy.

  5. Cut 3/4" x 6" strips from felt or fleece; fringe ends. Wrap and glue scarves around toys.

Note: If project will be placed in child's room, remove it before child is mobile enough to reach it to prevent possible choking hazard; add it to holiday decorations for time being.
