Threads Under Glass Card

Try an inventive way to create a new card for your collection. Glass makes these metallic threads pop and makes a cool card. Designed by Maria Nerius, this is a papercrafter's delight.

Threads Under Glass Card

  • Glass slides
  • Foiling tape
  • Card blank
  • Pink mulberry paper
  • Scrap watercolor paper
  • Texture stamps
  • Pearl pink and mint green pigment ink
  • Assorted markers
  • Brush with palette and water or a waterbrush
  • Scraps of metallic threads
  • Paper glue

  1. Cut strips of watercolor paper exact size of your glass slides. Ranger Ink sells several different sizes of these glass slides or have them cut at your local stained glass shop. Using a palette, swipe some color from a marker onto it, take a wet paintbrush and pick up the color. Tap brush tip to splatter the ink onto the strips of watercolor paper. Yellow, pink, navy blue, and light blue inks were used. If you have a watercolor brush, just pick up the color by swiping the brush over the marker tip, mix on palette, splatter.
  2. Place random metallic threads onto the splattered watercolor paper. Place glass slide on top. Foil. To foil you hold the glass slide and the watercolor strip back with threads sandwiched inbetween. Remove paper backing from the foiling tape and run around outside edge, then with finger press tape to edge, then to front and back. The foiling tape holds it all together! Foiling tape is self adhesive and found where stained glass supplies are sold.
  3. Stamp the card front with your texture stamps. Allow to dry. Cut a mat slightly larger than the measurement of the slides spaced. Adhere this pink mulberry mat to the top center of card front. Adhere row of the glass slides. Optional: Splatter card front for finishing touch.

Great idea-only instead of using glass-cut out some that plastic that everything comes sealed in, then you can mail with out worrying about broken Glass. You do eveyrthing the same way, with the tape etc.
