Easter is a great holiday for crafters because it is one of the first springtime celebrations of the year. A staple of Easter crafting are the large plastic Easter eggs found just about everywhere during the season. They are cheap, easy to use and can be reused over and over again. Here are some great, quick and easy crafts that incorporate large plastic Easter eggs.

Glittered Easter Eggs

By: Art Glitter

Turn dull inexpensive plastic eggs into glamorous, dazzling Easter Eggs you can display year after year.

  • Art Glitter: Ultrafine Transparent and Opaque or Vintage Glass Glitter Fine and
  • Shards or Hologram, Pearlescent, Neon. Several colors of your choice.
  • Designer Dries Clear Adhesive
  • Plastic Eggs of various sizes and colors
  • Paint Brush
  • Spray Adhesive (found at any department store)
  • Trays for glitter or flat-bottomed coffee filters

  1. Open plastic egg and set open ends on scrap paper. Spray with a light coat of spray adhesive and let dry. Snap egg back together. Some spray adhesives stay tacky, which is fine.
  2. Pour glitter into coffee filters or plastic trays. Pour small amount of Designer Dries Clear adhesive into a tray, (about two teaspoons) if glue is too thick; mix in a couple drops of water till it spreads smoothly.
  3. Paint one end of egg with Designer Dries Clear adhesive. If your glue repeals in some areas brush on a thicker layer. Try to keep adhesive thin around the seam.
  4. Spoon on glitter color and type of your choice. (Remember if you are using transparent colors they will be influenced by the color of the egg.) Set egg in glitter to let dry. Turn in about 5 minutes. Glue and glitter other side when dry, again try to keep adhesive thin around the seam.

Easter Wreath Craft Ideas

  • Buy several packages of plastic colored Easter eggs (usually available at the Dollar Store or a store like Target or Wal-Mart). Hot glue gun the eggs all around a plain wreath for a colorful decoration.
  • Do the same as above using plastic flowers. You can also string ribbon throughout the vines for a fancier look.

Tips on Easter Lily Saving:

Easter Lily Saving

Easter lilies are a beautiful tradition during this spring holiday and you should get the most you can out of their gorgeous, fragrant blooms. Here are a couple tricks and tips for Easter lily saving –from extending their bloom time to how to keep them around for next year.

  • To enjoy Easter lilies indoors, keep them at a comfortable temperature. Since lilies are native to Japan they do best in moderate temperatures so keep them between 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Don’t expose indoor Easter lilies to direct sunlight, heating vents, hot appliances, fireplaces or open windows. And remember, lilies are poisonous to cats, so keep Fluffy away!
  • When your Easter lilies blooms fade and wilt, pinch each off with your fingers gently to encourage new blooms.
  • When the blossoms open, reach inside the flower and pinch off the golden anthers as soon as you can. This will cause blooming to last longer and keeps the pollen from getting on your tabletops.
  • Once your plant is no longer producing blooms, keep it for next year with easy Easter lily saving techniques. Stop watering the lily when it becomes wilted. The leaves will begin to fall off so use a sharp kitchen knife or plant pruners to cut the main stem approximately 2” from the dirt Replant once the final frost has passed in a temperate spot.

Very cute ideas! Somehow, Easter and glitter just go so well together. I wonder if some of the eggs I have are too flimsy, though? It seems that the thicker, better made ones would hold up better.

All of these projects and suggestions are just great! For the Easter lillies, I have also pinched off the golden anthers and this tip works great not only in prolonging bloom life, but those anthers get golden pollen all over and nipping them early saves you a messy tabletop later! I have a friend who plants these and also pointsettia plants outside and either covers them or brings them in and replants them and they bloom again the following year! Great tips, wonderful projects!
