Vintage Winter Wreath

With some simple pearl garland and a variety of vintage brooches and embellishments, you can create a stunning Vintage Winter Wreath that would look beautiful hanging either indoors or out.  This wreath from Mitzi Curi is simple, yet elegant and makes a lovely winter decoration.  Pick from one of Mitzi's several designs for a wreath that you love.  These projects are quick and easy and a great way to enjoy the beauty of winter all season long.

  • Pearl Garland (I used three strands to cover a medium foam wreath)
  • Medium foam wreath
  • Various embellishments
  • Hot glue gun

  1. Put a dab of glue on the end of the garland to secure it, and begin winding it around the wreath form.  I put the occasional dab of hot glue here and there to keep the garland in place as I wrapped it around, and a big glob to secure the end.

  2. Once you have your base finished, you can experiment with different embellishments!

  3. First, I tried three vintage enamel brooches from the 1960's.  I clustered them at one side of the wreath, using their own pinbacks to secure them.  Thinking they looked a little sparse on their own, I added a velvet bow with a vintage earring center at the top.

  4. Well, that's one version.  I decided to try another, with two brass brooches I purchased recently.  And I added a loop of leftover Prima ribbon at the top.

  5. Well, that version didn't seal the deal for me either.  I decided to hot glue a snowflake ornament on the wreath as a base to give the jewelry I select some additional pizzaz.  In addition, I looped a soft blue vintage satin ribbon at the top for hanging.  Then I went back to my stash of jewelry.  Instead of gluing them permanently, I pinned them in place using their own pinbacks and additional straight pins.

This looks like it takes a lot of bead garland, but it is beautiful! I am going to see what bead garland is available in case I can't find the pearl look. I like vintage pins too. I bought a gorgeous one for fifty cents last month at a yard sale! I'm glad I found this wreath idea in October so I can find the supplies before my Christmas decor goes up.

I love this idea. I have some vintage beaded garland that would be so pretty. But I also like the use of the vintage pins. One of my dream ideas is to go to garage sales and buy lots of vintage costume jewelry pins and cover the entire wreath with the pins! Then I could take them out to wear anytime! A great way to display and store them at the same time! Firm and function at its finest! )

I just saw one the other day in Gold which is my theme this year and it didn't have directions. How weird this would show up. Now I will be on a mission for gold beads, probably not such thing, but I am game.

This wreath is so gorgeous, and I can't believe how easy it is! I have some pretty vintage brooches that would look lovely on this vintage-inspired wreath.

I love this wreath but I cannot find the pearl garland anywhere. Any suggestions on where to get it?

this is so nice.
