Faux Stone Tray

 Transform an inexpensive wooden tray into a sophisticated serving piece with the look of old stone.


Materials:

DecoArt Products Required
Paintable Texture - Fine

  • TX04 - Fine

Paintable Texture - Thick

  • TX05 - Thick

Americana Acrylics

  • DA180 - Asphaltum

Faux Glazing Medium

  • DS18 - Faux Glazing Medium

DuraClear Varnishes

  • DS60 - DuraClear Matte Varnish

Americana Brushes

  • DBL1000-B - Liner #0
  • DBF2575-B - Flat 3/4"

Palette Knife

  • DT02 - Palette Knife

Supplies

  • Water container
  • Palette or plastic plate
  • Paper towels
  • 1/4" masking tape or quilters tape
  • Baby wipes
  • Wood tray


Steps:

  1. Tape off blocks on tray sides with tape.
     
  2. Apply Texture Thick with palette knife to inside of tray.
     
  3. With palette knife, apply Texture Fine on tray sides. Allow to dry.
     
  4. Mix Faux Glazing Medium, water, and Asphaltum equally. Apply glaze randomly and wipe back with baby wipe.
     
  5. Carefully remove tape.
     
  6. Paint border and tape lines wtih Asphaltum.
     
  7. Add veining details with liner brush and Asphaltum.
     
  8. Apply DuraClear Matte Varnish, allowing to dry between coats.
