Crochet Stitch-Sampler Throw
Practice new stitch combinations as you crochet this stitch-sampler afghan from Red Heart Yarns. Color blocks mean this crochet sampler afghan pattern will work for any room and anyone, you just need to select your six favorite colors.
Throw measures 47” x 58”.
MATERIALS:
- Red Heart® “Super Saver®” (Art. E300) Solid 7 oz (198 g), 364 yd (333 m); Multi, Fleck and Print 5 oz (141 g), 244 yd (223 m) skeins: 2 skeins each of 726 Coral A and 661 Frosty Green B; 1 skein each of 320 Cornmeal C, 624 Tea Leaf D, 382 Country Blue E, and 334 Buff F
- Crochet Hook: 6mm [US J-10]
- Yarn needle
GAUGE: Each block = 9½” wide x 9¾” tall. See individual gauges for each block. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
NOTES:
- Leave a 22” tail before beginning each block and after fastening off to sew blocks together. Weave tails up through backs of sts to corner to beginning sewing.
- Always work row 1 of each block in back bump of each ch of foundation ch.
- Leave last ch of foundation ch unworked for knotting off.
- Borders of each block should have 29 sc between each corner ch-2 space on top and bottom edge; 30 sc across each side edge.
- When working over post of dc on border rounds, work one sc in top of dc and one around post of dc.
SPECIAL STITCHES
Long double crochet (Ldc): Yo, working over next ch-1 space, insert hook in next corresponding st 2 rounds below, yo, draw yarn through st, (yo, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook) twice.
Front post double crochet (Fpdc): Yo, insert hook from front to back to front again around the post of designated st, yo, draw yarn through, (yo, draw yarn through 2 loops on hoop) twice.
Front post treble crochet (Fptr): Yo (twice), insert hook from front to back to front again around the post of designated st, yo, draw yarn through, (yo, draw yarn through 2 loops on hoop) 3 times.
Popcorn: 4 dc in next st, drop loop from hook, insert hook in top of first dc, draw dropped loop through st.
Shell: (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same st or space.
Puff st: [Yo, insert hook in designated st, yo, draw yarn through st and up to level of work] 3 times, yo, draw yarn through 7 loops on hook.
BLOCK 1 (make 4)
Gauge: 6 sts and 6 rows in pattern = 2”.
With B, ch 31.
Row 1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next sc; repeat from * across to within last ch; turn, leaving last ch unworked – 14 ch-1 spaces; 15 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, sc in next sc; repeat from * across; turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *working over next ch1 space, work Ldc in next corresponding ch-1 space 2 rows below, sc in next sc; repeat from * across; turn – 14 Ldc; 15 sc.
Row 4: Sc in first sc. *Ch 1, sk next Ldc, sc in next sc; repeat from * across; turn – 14 ch-1 spaces, 15 sc.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *Fptr over next ch-1 space, around the post of next corresponding dc, 2 rows below, sc; repeat from * across; turn – 14 Fptr; 15 sc.

ASSEMBLY:
Arrange blocks following Assembly Diagram with tops of each block on top. With sewing lengths on bottom of blocks, matching sts, sew 5 blocks together into 4 strips. With top sewing lengths, sew strips together, matching sts across sides. Weave in ends.
BORDER
Round 1 (right side): With right side facing, join F in 14th st to the left of top right-hand corner ch2 space, ch 1, sc each sc around, working 1 sc in each ch-2 space at each junction, 1 sc in each junction and (sc, ch 2, sc) in each corner ch-2 space; join with slip st in first sc, turn.
Round 2 (wrong side): Ch 1, sc in next sc, *ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * across to within 1 st of next corner, ch 1, skip next sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 space; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc, turn.
Round 3 (right side): Ch 1, sc in each sc and each ch-1 space around, working (sc, ch 2, sc) in each corner ch-2 space, join with slip st in first sc, turn.

Wow! What a bright idea. I want to do this a it is. If only for the easy access pattern in front where everything is here, you'll want to make this project. I'll definitely make this but when, that's the question. Thanks for the pattern.
