Make a lovely wooden Christmas sign for your wall this year. This DIY Christmas sign includes darling festive phrases in the shape of a Christmas tree! If you love the pallet crafts trend, this is a great rustic craft. Learn how to stencil this project easily and hang it on the wall in a particularly bare spot. The different fonts used add interest to the painting project, and the sizes of the words help it fit nicely into a Christmas tree shape! If you love monochromatic art, you'll adore this project.

Materials List

  • FolkArt ® Home Decor™ Chalk - White Adirondack, 2 oz.
  • FolkArt ® Home Decor™ Chalk - Rich Black, 2 oz.
  • FolkArt ® Stencil Value Packs - Holiday, 12" x 12"
  • FolkArt ® Brush Sets - Soft Grip - Wash Brush Set
  • Folkart ® Brushes - Stencil, Premium, 5/8"
  • Folkart ® Paint Tools - Stencil Tape
  • Plaid ® Wood Surfaces - Pallet Plaque, 15-3/4" x 11-3/4"
  • FolkArt ® Home Decor™ Tools - Layering Block
  • Medium-grit sandpaper

Instructions:

  1. Basecoat pallet with White Adirondack. Allow to dry.

  2. Very lightly stencil the words of the tree in Rich Black just so you will know where to paint the black rectangles. This is only a guide for placement.

  3. Tape off each word that you stenciled lightly and paint over Rich Black using the stencil brush. Allow it to dry and then stencil the words in White Adirondack. Allow to dry. Sand to distress.

  4. Optional: Use the layering block to add extra distressed areas as shown in photo. Dip the block into the Rich Black and then dab onto a paper towel to remove excess. Run the block along the sides of the pallet and then very, very lightly along the slats.

I have a Crystal Christmas Angel that was my Mothers, sadly she's passed but every year at Christmas I put it out remembering the wonderful Christmas's spent with her and our family.

My most favorite holiday decoration we have is a Pomander from Avon. my mom had gotten it in the late 70's, we always had it out at Christmastime and it smelled wonderful. It was lost during a move about 15 years ago. This year I found one just like it on ebay and purchased it. The scent isn't nearly as strong as I'd like it to be but I love it none the less.

Love the sign. I bought several wood pieces but haven't done anything with them. Your post gives me incentive to go paint on them. At Christmas my favorite decor is my collection of Santa's. Enjoy putting them out and enjoying them during the holiday season.

My Christmas tree with all the ornaments that have been passed down over the years. It is lovely to think of the many fond memories of my family.

My Thomas Kinkade Santa figurines.

Would you have to do this kind of sign any differently if you wanted colors? I'd like to do something spring-inspired so I don't have to think about the snow!

I love the Christmas tree. I have many glass ornaments in different shapes and colors and a few pieces precede my birth date. It holds so many memories, especially of my parents and childhood.

My 18" tall purple tree with purple decorations... perched safely atop a bookcase to protect it from my young cat!!

My mom's Christmas tree, decorated with memories and handmade ornaments.

Love the country look of this!
