What three things make the holidays great? This painted Christmas wall hanging answers "Family, Fun and Friends."  Great for hanging by your Christmas tree or by the front door, this decorative Christmas craft is a great reminder of what is important this holiday season.  Have some other words that describe the holiday season for you?  You can easily make this hanging decoration say whatever you'd like, from Family, Fun, and Friends, to Ho, Ho, Ho!

Trio Painted Christmas Wall Hanging

  • Americana Acrylics in Bright Green
  • Americana Acrylics in Santa Red
  • Americana Acrylics in Pistachio Mint
  • Triple Thick Gloss Glaze, 2-oz. Brush-On
  • Glamour Dust Gold
  • Dazzling Metallics Writers in Gold
  • Aleene's Tacky Glue
  • Foam brush
  • Small scissors or craft knife
  • Three scrapbook papers in holiday print, 8 1/2" x 11" sheets (We used The Paper Studio, Red & Green Polka Dot, 379-2006/ 879890 and 'Tis the Season Stripe, 379-2006/879882, and The Paper Patch, B663 Antique Holly on Scarlet.)
  • One yard of 1" wide ribbon (We used red/white stripe.)
  • Lo-temp glue gun and glue sticks
  • Three 3" x 5" unfinished wood plaques

  1. Paint sides of each plaque, overlapping back and front edges slightly, painting one of each Americana Acrylic color. Let dry.
  2. Apply Triple Thick Gloss Glaze over painted areas; let dry.
  3. Cut 4" x 6" piece from each scrapbook paper. Apply thin coat of glue to front surface of each plaque, applying glue evenly to entire surface. Lay plaque face down on back side of paper piece, pressing firmly to remove any air bubbles. Turn right side up and smooth out any wrinkles with fingers.
  4. When glue has dried completely, trim paper close to edge of wood on front. (This is done most easily by placing plaque facedown and trimming closely with craft knife. Small sharp scissors can be used as well.)
  5. Use Gold Dazzling Metallics Writer to paint words on plaques; while paint is wet, sprinkle words with Glamour Dust. Let dry.
  6. Referring to photo, lay plaques facedown on clean flat surface in desired position. Fold ribbon in half. With loop end at top, glue ribbon to backs of plaques. Trim ends of ribbon streamers.
  7. Helpful Hint:  A hair dryer on low-heat setting can be used to assist in drying glue quicker and preventing wrinkles.
