Pinecone Sunflowers

If you're not quite ready to let go of summer and embrace fall, then this is the perfect project for you. The Pinecone Sunflowers will help you ease your way into autumn, combining both seasons into one of the more unique homemade fall decorations we've seen. The glittery pinecone and silk sunflower petals will give you a one-of-a-kind flower arrangement that will last all season long. Break out the glitter and prepare to make a fabulous decoration.

Pine Cone Sunflowers

  • Project popperz® glitter in gold
  • Craft bond® tacky glue
  • Yellow glitter glue
  • Dowel rods-various sizes (Horizon Group USA)
  • Styrofoam™ 1.5" ball (FloraCraft®)
  • Styrofoam™ tool kit (FloraCraft®)
  • Paint (Plaid® green apple barrel)
  • Paint in orange, brown and gold (Plaid® folk art)
  • Paint brush
  • Pine Cones
  • Silk sunflowers
  • Sea sponge

  1. Cut the foam ball in half. Poke the dowel rod into the rounded side of the ball-this is for the dowel rod stem. Vary the angles that the dowel is poked in. Paint each side of the ball pieces green as well as the dowel rods.
  2. Dilute the gold paint with water and brush over the pine cones with a big brush to make getting in the tight spots easier. Leave to dry.
  3. Sponge paint brown and orange onto the pine cone.
  4. Take apart the sunflowers so only the petal pieces remain. Glue the petal layers together with thick glue.
  5. Paint the pine cone edges with gold glitter glue.
  6. Glue the pine cone on top of the sunflower petals with thick glue.
  7. Glue the flat side of the foam ball to the back of the petals and leave to dry.
  8. Put some glue into the inside the hole on the foam ball and insert a dowel rod. Leave to dry.
  9. Optionally you can add paper or silk leaves to the dowel rods.
