The EASIEST Rustic DIY Wood Magnets Made From a Ruler

"These magnets turned out to be one of my favorite DIY crafts. I’ve sold them at many of my craft events and give them away as gifts. On the other hand, it makes me want to keep them all for myself! Seriously, I adore them. But really you won’t even believe what they are made out of! Truth be told, it’s rulers that I cut into small pieces! It was such a good idea. Which most importantly they were so affordable! Even though they barely cost anything to make they looked like they would have cost a lot to make. Isn’t saving money on crafts the best thing ever?"

Materials List

  • Ruler
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Wood Stain
  • Sand Paper
  • Magnet Roll
  • Hot Glue
  • Hot Glue Gun

Instructions

  1. First you will start with your rulers. I cute them into pieces that were 2.5-3 inches long.

  2. Once they were cut into pieces I lightly sanded the sides to smooth the edges. Then stained them with Minwax Dark Walnut.

  3. I stained and painted them with acrylic paint.

  4. I painted them using stencils as well as hand painted designs.

  5. Once the paint was dry I hot glued a strip of magnet on the back of the wood piece.
