Summer Scattergories

Celebrate summer with a fun activity for the whole family! All you need is this free printable, a timer, and a random letter generator to play!

If you're a fan of the game Scattergories, add some seasonal lists to your reperatoire with this free printable! Maybe you have a summer barbeque coming up or a 4th of July party. Take a break from the heat and pop into the air conditioning for some board game time. You can play three different rounds with these lists. Some of the categories include ice cream flavor, picnic food, things at a campfire, and ways to stay cool.

How to Play Scattergories:

  1. Prepare a dice or a draw lots system that contains most, if not all, of the letters of the alphabet (Sometimes, Q, U, V, X, Y, and Z are not included because of difficulty). Then randomly select the letter of the alphabet that players will use as the first letter of their answers for a given round. For example, if "B" is chosen answers could include "Bunnies", "Blue", "Bacon", etc.
  2. Once a letter is selected, players provide a word or phrase that answers the chosen category within the given time (usually about three minutes).
  3. Players should make sure their answers are unique so that they can score more points. The goal is to have a correct, yet one-of-a-kind answer that none of the other players wrote down. If another player wrote the same answer as you, neither of you score a point for that category. This means that the more players there are in the game, the more difficult it is to score a point.
  4. Tally your points from all three rounds. The player with the most points at the end of the three rounds wins the game.
