  • 8 x 100g balls of Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran in Mustard Yellow 
  • Pair of 4mm (UK 8 – US 6) knitting needles
  • Pair of 5mm (UK 6 – US 8) knitting needles 
  • Cable needle

Instructions

CENTRE SECTION

  1. Cast on 165 sts using 5mm (US 8) needles.

  2. Now work first band of blocks as follows:

  3. Row 1 (rs) *(P4, K1, inc in next st, K2, inc in next st, K2, inc in next st, K1, P4, K2) twice, P4, K1, (inc in next st, K2) twice, inc in next st, K1, P4*, K55, rep from * to * once more. 183 sts.

  4. Row 2 and every foll alt row to row 70 *(K4, P12, K4, P2) twice, K4, P12, K4*, P55, rep from * to * once more.

  5. Row 3 *P4, K4, C8B, P4, K2, P4, K4, C8F, P4, K2, P4, K4, C8B, P4*, K55, rep from * to * once more.

  6. Row 5 *(P4, K12, P4, K2) twice, P4, K12, P4*, K55, rep from * to * once more.

  7. Row 7 *P4, C8F, K4, P4, K2, P4, C8B, K4, P4, K2, P4, C8F, K4, P4*, K55, rep from * to * once more.

  8. Row 9 as row 5.

  9. Rows 2 to 9 form patt for first band of blocks.

  10. Cont in patt as now set for a further 62 rows, ending after row 7 and with a rs row.

  11. Row 72 (ws) *(K4, P1, P2tog, P2, P2tog, P2, P2tog, P1, K4, P2) twice, K4, P1, (P2tog, P2) twice, P2tog, P1, K4*, P55, rep from * to * once more. 165 sts.

  12. This completes first band of blocks.

  13. Now work second band of blocks as follows:

  14. Row 73 (rs) K55, (P4, K1, inc in next st, K2, inc in next st, K2, inc in next st, K1, P4, K2) twice, P4, K1, (inc in next st, K2) twice, inc in next st, K1, P4, K55. 174 sts.

  15. Row 74 and every foll alt row to row 142 P55, (K4, P12, K4, P2) twice, K4, P12, K4, P55.

  16. Row 75 K55, P4, K4, C8B, P4, K2, P4, K4, C8F, P4, K2, P4, K4, C8B, P4, K55.

  17. Row 77 K55, (P4, K12, P4, K2) twice, P4, K12, P4, K55.

  18. Row 79 K55, P4, C8F, K4, P4, K2, P4, C8B, K4, P4, K2, P4, C8F, K4, P4, K55.

  19. Row 81 as row 77.

  20. Rows 74 to 81 form patt for second band of blocks.

  21. Cont in patt as now set for a further 62 rows, ending after row 79 and with a rs row.

  22. Row 144 (ws) P55, (K4, P1, P2tog, P2, P2tog, P2, P2tog, P1, K4, P2) twice, K4, P1, (P2tog, P2) twice, P2tog, P1, K4, P55. 165 sts.

  23. This completes second band of blocks.

  24. Now work 3rd and 4th bands of blocks by repeating rows 1 to 144 again, ending with a ws row.

  25. Cast (bind) off all 165 sts in patt.

END BORDERS (Both alike)

  1. With rs facing and using 4mm (US 6) needles, pick up and knit 165 sts evenly along cast-on edge of Centre Section.

  2. Row 1 (ws) knit.

  3. Row 2 inc in first st, K to last 2 sts, inc in next st, K1.

  4. Rep last 2 rows 8 times more. 183 sts.

  5. Cast (bind) off loosely knitwise (on ws).

  6. Work End Border across cast-off (bind-off) edge of Centre Section in same way.

SIDE BORDERS (Both alike)

  1. With rs facing and using 4mm (US 6) needles, pick up and knit 216 sts evenly along one row-end edge of Centre Section.

  2. Row 1 (ws) knit.

  3. Row 2 inc in first st, K to last 2 sts, inc in next st, K1.

  4. Rep last 2 rows 8 times more. 234 sts.

  5. Cast (bind) off loosely knitwise (on ws).

  6. Work Side Border along other row-end edge of Centre Section in
    same way.

MAKING UP

  1. Do NOT steam press!

  2. Join shaped row-end edges of Borders to form mitred corners.

  3. Pin out Throw to measurement given, cover with a clean damp cloth and leave to dry naturally.
