Crochet HookE/4 or 3.5 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Crochet Gauge18 sc and 20 rows = 4" [10 cm].

Finished SizeSmall: Approx 5 x 5 x 6" [12.5 x 12.5 x 15 cm], with top unfolded. // Medium: Approx 5 x 10 x 6" [12.5 x 25.5 x 15 cm], with top unfolded.

Materials List

  • 2 balls Lily® Sugar’n Cream yarn (70.9 g / 2.5 oz) in White (for small basket)
  • 2 balls Lily® Sugar’n Cream yarn (70.9 g / 2.5 oz) in Emerald (for small basket)
  • 3 balls Lily® Sugar’n Cream yarn (70.9 g / 2.5 oz) in Red (for medium basket)
  • Size 3.5 mm (U.S. E or 4) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Fabric stiffener (optional)

Instructions:

Note: The instructions are written for small basket. If changes are necessary for medium basket the instructions will be written thus ( ). When only one number is given, it applies to both sizes. For ease in working, circle all numbers pertaining to your size.

Sides

  1. Ch 28.

  2. 1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 27 sc.

  3. 2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc across. Turn.

  4. Rep last row until work from beg measures 5" [12.5 cm], ending with a WS row.

Small Basket Only

  1. **Next row: (RS). (Fold line). Ch 1. Working through back loops only, 1 sc in each sc across. Turn.

  2. Next row: Ch 1. Working through both loops, 1 sc in each sc across. Turn.

  3. Rep last row until work from beg measures 5" [12.5 cm], ending with a WS row.**

  4. Rep from ** to ** twice more.

Medium Basket Only

  1. Next row: (RS). (Fold line). Ch 1. Working through back loops only, 1 sc in each sc across. Turn.

  2. ***Next row: Ch 1. Working through both loops, 1 sc in each sc across. Turn.

  3. Rep last row until work from last fold line measures 10" [25.5 cm], ending with a WS row.***

  4. Next row: (RS). (Fold line). Ch 1. Working through back loops only, 1 sc in each sc across. Turn.

  5. Next row: Ch 1. Working through both loops, 1 sc in each sc across. Turn.

  6. Rep last row until work from last fold line measures 5" [12.5 cm], ending with a WS row.

  7. Rep from *** to *** once more.

Both Baskets

  1. Next row: (RS). (Joining row). Place foundation ch behind last row with WS of work tog.

  2. Ch 1. Working through both thicknesses, 1 sc in each sc across

  3. Fasten off.

Base

  1. Ch 23 (46).

  2. 1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 22 (45) sc.

  3. 2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc across. Turn.

  4. Rep last row until work from beg measures 5" [12.5 cm], ending with a WS row. Do not fasten off.

Join Base to Sides:

  1. Place lower edge of Sides behind Base with WS of work tog, aligning corners of Base with fold lines and joining row of Sides.

  2. Next rnd: (RS). Ch 1. Working through both thicknesses, work 1 rnd of sc around all 4 sides of Base. Join with sl st in first sc.

  3. Fasten off.

FINISHING

  1. Fold top edge to RS as shown in picture.

  2. Optional: Apply fabric stiffener to Baskets following manufacturer’s directions.
