Materials List

  • Yarn in your choice of color
  • 2” x 3” piece of cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Straws
  • Glue gun & glue

Instructions

Pom Pom

  1. Wrap your yarn around the piece of cardboard approximately 100 times so you’ve created a big tube of yarn. The more times you wrap, the fuller your pom pom will be.

  2. Cut another piece of yarn (in the same color), about 6-8 inches in length.

  3. Slide the tube of yarn off the cardboard, being careful not to disrupt the tube shape of the yarn.

  4. Tie the piece of yarn around the tube of yarn as tightly as you can, keeping the string towards the middle of the tube. Be careful not to break the yarn when tying. You should now have two “sides” of yarn loops, separated by the string that you just tied.

  5. Using your scissors, cut all of the yarn loops.

  6. Your pom pom is complete! Use your scissors to trim any unruly pieces of yarn until you are pleased with the shape of your pom pom.

Bouquet

  1. Make 5-7 pom poms in your color(s) of choice.

Note: I used a 2” x 3” piece of cardboard for my pom poms, but there are a variety of different methods you can use; feel free to use the one you are most comfortable with!

  2. Using a glue gun, line the outer edge of a straw with glue and affix to the inside of your pom pom.

  3. Repeat for the rest of your pom poms until you have a lovely “bouquet” of flowers! You can either put in a vase for display or wrap some twine around them as a gift.

Note: If you are arranging in a vase, feel free to trim the bottom of a few straws so your flowers have varying heights – just like you are arranging a real bouquet of flowers!
