Yarn Weight(6) Super Bulky/Super Chunky (4-11 stitches for 4 inches)

Crochet Hook4.5 mm hook, N/15 or 10 mm hook

Materials:

  • 10.00mm crochet hook
  • 4.50mm crochet hook
  • 60g super bulky yarn {14ply}
  • 5g white DK Yarn {8ply}
  • 2x buttons {0.8 inches x 0.8inches}
  • Tapestry/wool needle
  • Scissors

Size:

  • Newborn, 0 - 3 Months Old
  • {Head Circumference 13.5 inches, 34cm. Hat Height 5.5 inches, 14cm}

Instructions:
Chains at the start of a round count as the first Half Double Crochet of that round.

Hat

  1. Round 1 Taking your 10.00mm crochet hook and super bulky yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 3 Chains. Crochet 7 Half Double Crochets into the first chain you made. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 3. You should have 8 half double crochets now.
     
  2. Round 2 Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. Crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 16 half double crochets now.
     
  3. Round 3 Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next 2 stitches. Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch.  Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 22 half double crochets now.
     
  4. Round 4 - 8 Chain 2. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2.
     
  5. Round 9 Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into chain 1. Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

 

Eyes

Outer Eye

  1. Round 1 Taking your 10.00mm crochet hook and super bulky yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 3 Chains. Crochet 9 Half Double Crochets into the first chain you made. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 3. You should have 10 half double crochets now.
     
  2. Round 2 Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. *Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet into the next stitch. Then crochet 2 Half Double Crochets in the next stitch.  Repeat from the * all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 15 half double crochets now.
     
  3. Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.

 

White of the Eyes

 

  1. Round 1 Taking your 4.50mm crochet hook and DK yarn, start of by making a Slip Knot, then crochet 3 Chains. Crochet 9 Half Double Crochets into the first chain you made. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 3. You should have 10 half double crochets now.
     
  2. Round 2 Chain 2, then crochet a Half Double Crochet into the same stitch. Crochet 2 Half Double Crochets into every stitch all around. Slip Stitch into the top of chain 2. You should have 20 half double crochets now.
     
  3. Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
     
  4. Repeat eye pattern once more to make a pair.
     
  5. Taking your tapestry needle, sew both outer eyes to the top of your hat, making sure they're evenly spaced out. Then sew the white of the eye's inside of the outer eyes. Taking your buttons, sew one onto each eye, towards the bottom middle.
